This week’s Las Vegas high school football lineup was primed to deliver some exciting action that would have the Valley talking all week.

The face-off between national powers Bishop Gorman and Long Beach Poly in the Nike Football Kickoff Classic is one matchup that generated huge buzz. They traveled to Portland, Oregon, for a national showcase game that saw the Gaels blow out the Jack Rabbits 60-15.

Adding to the mix was a game on the North Side of town, Mojave vs Canyon Springs. In a close game, the Pioneers remain undefeated after defeating the Rattlers 18-12.

Faith Lutheran hosted Desert Pines in an intriguing matchup. The Crusaders, led by former UNLV head coach Mike Sanford, have the look of a team that could make a run at the 5A-Division 2 level, while the Jaguars were looking for their first win of the year after having their game called last week to due the weather.

The game was close in the first half, but the Jaguars pulled away in the second half, resulting in a 38-13 win.

Lastly, the matchup between Arbor View and Pinnacle that was taking place in Arizona had 702HSFB fans wondering if the Aggies game last week vs. Cajon (CA) was game one jitters or if something was going on at Arbor View. It was tough sledding for the Aggies as Pinnacle beat Arbor View 19-9.

It’s time for some #702HSFB

Meanwhile, another exciting game on the schedule was the FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week, Centennial vs Palo Verde. The two rivals from the North West are considered the favorites for their respective divisions. The Bulldogs were coming off a win over King-Drew (CA), while the Panthers were looking to bounce back from a last-second loss to Faith Lutheran.

A closely contested affair, Centennial quarterback Vic Plotnikov threw for three touchdowns on his way to the FSM Prep Rally Player of the Game. The Bulldog’s defense came away with huge stops in the second and fourth quarters that helped seal the 26-20 victory. New head coach DJ Campbell has his team 2-0 for the first time since 2019, the year Centennial went to the NIAA 5A championship game.

The Panthers had a good game from their own QB, Crew Dannels, who was under pressure all game. Dannels showed grit and determination but couldn’t overcome a suffocating Bulldog defense. Furious Hoskins, who lined up at receiver and cornerback for Palo Verde, caught a TD pass from Dannels.

Centennial travels to Utah to take on Snow Canyon, while Palo Verde hosts Mojave next week.

The final score from Palo Verde High School was Centennial defeating the Panther 26-20.
