FSM Presents: The FSM Prep Rally – Las Vegas High School Football – Week 10

www.FranchiseSportsMedia.com

Welcome back to The FSM Prep Rally on Franchise Sports Media. The 702 High School football scene was full of exciting games and some blowouts in Week 9. In the final week of the regular season, Week 10, we have Gorman separating from the pack, a rap song about a school days before they kickoff, and the FSM Top 10 Rankings that will have some in their feelings.

Week 9 Recap and a thought:

Week 9 had one of the Valley’s oldest rivalries take place when Palo Verde took on Bishop Gorman at Fertitta Field. It hasn’t been much of a rivalry over the past decade or so, but that didn’t stop Gaels head coach Brent Browner from educating his team on the history of the rivalry. He told the stories of the pranks, both harmless and dangerous, that the schools once played on each other. He explained that Palo, not Liberty, was the school that gave Gorman the most trouble on the field.

Unfortunately, for the Panthers, who were down three quarterbacks and multiple starters, the Gaels showed no mercy as they scored three touchdowns on their first four plays. Bishop Gorman scored at will to the tune of 49 points, while still not giving up a point to a Las Vegas opponent this season. Gaels Junior wide receiver/kick returner Zachariah Branch once again showed he is the top playmaker in Las Vegas and did so in front of USC, Notre Dame and UNLV coaches who were in attendance. He had two punts for touchdowns called back because of penalties but scored twice on passes from Micah Alejado.

On Saturday a rap song started to circulate amongst some high school coaches, players, and certain members of the media. The song is “allegedly” from a Las Vegas high school football team’s Snapchat account. In the song the “rappers,” err, I mean “players” (because the lyrics were CHEEKS), said vulgar, offensive, and disrespectful things about players on their “alleged” upcoming opponents, if they are indeed students from the school in which the song claims.

I get making a song to get your team hype and motivate them, but to be disrespectful towards another team and talk about things & people outside of football is disrespectful. In fact, the people on the song sound like a couple of young people who made another song about Liberty High School a few years ago before their school played them. Hopefully, the two teams facing off will stay within themselves and play a clean, tough game. No one wants to see any unnecessary drama or a game that gets out of hand with unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

The Ice Bowl takes place this week:

Lastly, a game that has a lot of people’s interest is the Legacy at Palo Verde game, I have decided to label it, “The Ice Bowl.” It is the first time in over a decade that John Isola will not be roaming the sidelines for the Longhorns. Coach Ice was surprisingly and controversially let go by Legacy in March, a move that raised the eyebrows of many coaches around the Valley.

Isola received a ton of support from his contemporaries and eventually ended up at Palo Verde as the offensive coordinator. His defensive coordinator AJ Lewis and wide receivers coach Johnny Sarabia also joined him there in various coaching roles.

This game also has playoff implications. If the Panthers win by more than 7 points, they will knock Legacy out of the playoffs, and make it themselves. Do you think coach Ice knows this? You bet your ass he does and I would dare to say that he would love nothing more than to beat the school who showed him no respect earlier in the year after years of love and service. Palo has a huge advantage since Isola, Lewis and Sarabia know the Longhorns better than anyone, including their own coaching staff, so you can bet a dozen doughnuts that this week they’re making sure the Panthers are locked in and ready to go.
