702 HSFB Girls Flag Football: Desert Oasis vs Basic

I learned something interesting last week about The Franchises’ favorite subject, Las Vegas high school sports. Desert Oasis has more female athletes playing sports than any other high school in the city, and their girls’ flag football team has been slaying the 4A all season long. Being that D.O. is basically in my hood, I figured I’d see for myself and bring the big lens.

I saw a 34-7 drubbing of the Basic Wolves by these fast, explosive, and well-coached Lady Diamondbacks. Their defense is hell. They instituted a no-fly zone which resulted in 3 interceptions. On offense, Senior WR Devon Patmon went OFF to the tune of 7 catches for 137 yds and 2 touchdowns. Freshman QB Akemi Higa was 14-20 with 205 passing yards and a QB rating of 142.7.

I was impressed, to say the least. Next season, we’re doing some girls’ flag football around here.

Next week the Lady Diamondbacks take their 20-2 overall record into the playoffs as the top seed in the 4A Mountain Division for the chance to play in the Nevada State Championship at Allegiant Stadium. Good luck, ladies!

And good luck to every Las Vegas high school girls’ flag football team in the playoffs!
