As Hank Williams Jr. used to say in the old Monday Night Football intro, ‘ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!’ 702HSFB is back as the 2023 season kicks off under the Friday Night Lights.

We had a full slate of action throughout the entire Las Vegas Valley, and FSM was present wherever football fans needed to be! From the Northside to the Southside, and from the Westside to the Eastside, FSM covers the entire Valley to provide you with the best coverage in Las Vegas.

But the weather had different ideas.

In an offseason full of drama, realignment, potential rule changes, and transfers, we are FINALLY getting down to business—playing some football. With thundershowers hitting the Valley throughout the day, the overcast skies and winds brought a different feel to opening night compared to previous years (when it was 110 degrees outside at kickoff). It was time to perform or be silent. There’s no more talk about it; it’s time to show it!

The top three teams, according to Franchise Sports Media, all faced out-of-state opponents. The #1 team in the FSM Prep Rally Top 10, Bishop Gorman, traveled to Utah to take on Corner Canyon. In contrast, the #2 ranked Liberty Patriots journeyed to California to face the nation’s #1 ranked team, St. John Bosco. Arbor View, ranked 3rd, welcomed Cajon High School from San Bernardino to Las Vegas.

However, the top three teams weren’t the only ones taking on out-of-state opponents. Las Vegas High School was scheduled to host Bishop Manogue on the Eastside. Most of the Valley played against local teams, resulting in some exciting matchups.

Coronado, led by junior quarterback Aidan Krause, faced Sierra Vista, whose senior quarterback Tarrance Masnica (also known as ‘Church‘) looked like it could have been a high-scoring affair. Masnica is arguably the second-best QB in Las Vegas, just behind the reigning National Gatorade Player of the Year, Micah Alejado, from Bishop Gorman. Krause is rapidly establishing himself as one of the city’s best.

Another game that was fiercely competitive was Faith Lutheran against Palo Verde. New quarterback Garyt Odom, who transferred from Shiloh Christian High School in Springdale, Arkansas, has shown why he’s considered one of the best and an Elite 11 quarterbacks in his class. He aimed to lead the Crusaders‘ offense in 2023. Palo Verde is also among the favorites to win the 5A Division 3 title this season.

Finally, the FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week featured Green Valley welcoming Herriman High School from Utah to ‘The Swap.Green Valley aimed to build on a solid 2022 campaign and leverage a strong offseason to prove why they’re a team to be reckoned with in the competitive 5A Division 2.

But due to Hurricane Hillary hitting the valley, several games across Las Vegas were canceled or delayed a few hours. It was quite an auspicious start to the season, to say the least.

It’s time for some #702HSFB

FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week: Herriman (UT) @ Green Valley

Green Valley took on Herriman in Week 1 #702HSFB action

Due to the weather in the valley, which caused a delay, FSM was unable to cover the Game of the Week. But to make it up to Green Valley and the Gators, we will be at their game against Durango on September 29th for the FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week.

The final score from Green Valley High School was Herriman defeated the Gators 30-18.
