FSM Essential Recap: Las Vegas High School Football- Week 6
Week 6 of the 702 High School Football season is in the books and it was another week filled with storylines, drama, and great action on the field. Gorman and DP looked to rebound, the Henderson Bowl took place and there would be more upsets in the Top 10.

The Gaels took on Arbor View Friday night at home in front of a packed house and they put on a show. Bishop Gorman was looking to bounce back after blowing a 24-7 lead with just over a minute left in the game a week earlier. The Aggies, on the other hand, were looking to build off an impressive 22-21 last-second win over Desert Pines.
In a statement-making win to open Desert League play, the Gaels took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a 52-0 win. Bishop Gorman quarterback Micah Alejado only played in the first half completing 9 of 16 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, and Zachariah Branch had a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Gorman dominated and there was nothing the Aggies could do about it. “There was nothing to get out of this game,” Aggies coach Matt Gerber said. “We did absolutely nothing. It was an embarrassment on the field, so you move on.”
“Last week, we got humbled and must’ve needed it,” Bishop Gorman coach Brent Browner said. “I can’t be more proud of the guys to get that feeling back, that feeling of accomplishment. There was something to prove. There was also a big thing of how do you come back from adversity? As bad as last week was, we’ve got to use it positively, and the guys responded perfectly.”
Upsets were also the theme of the night once again across the Valley.

Elijah Espinoza, the impressive freshman quarterback from Las Vegas High School, passed for four touchdowns to help the Wildcats upset Clark, 41-0. The Chargers were undefeated coming into the game, but couldn’t stay hot against a young and improving Las Vegas team.
“It was one of those nights where everything was clicking. We played good team ball tonight,” Las Vegas head coach Erick Capetillosaid after the game to reporters.
Foothill upset Palo Verde behind 200 yards and four touchdowns from Kendric Thomas in a 42-20 win. The Falcons’ only loss so far this season came against Liberty and they have now had back-to-back weeks of big-time wins.
“The kids are pumped up. They are ready to play,” Foothill head coach Vernon Brown said. “They really feel like they can compete with anybody.”

In a 14-0 win, the Spring Valley Grizzlies forced seven turnovers against the Mojave Rattlers. It’s the second shutout of the season for the Grizzlies.
“We got turnovers. We got timely defensive stops,” Spring Valley head coach Marcus Teal said. “We were really having a good defensive night, but our offense was out of sync. We have to be better, and we will be better for sure.”
Half of the Liberty Patriots roster was out due to COVID-19 protocols, but that didn’t stop the Patriots against Faith Lutheran Friday night. Brody Clark ran 16 times for 143 yards and a touchdown to lead the Patriots to a 37-7 win on homecoming night and to kick off Mountain League play.
“We knew we had to run the ball better,” said Liberty head coach Rich Muraco. “We’ve got to be able to establish the run, and that’s a big focus for us right now.”
