The Silverado Skyhawks are the surprise team of the season so far. They are the only team that is undefeated in the Valley and are arguably the most complete team in Las Vegas. Friday night the Skyhawks traveled to Cheyenne to take on Desert Shield’s and they put on a show. From the opening kickoff, Silverado asserted its dominance over Cheyenne.

The Skyhawks defense and special teams were the stars of the night as Silverado scored on all three phases in the first half en route to a 58-0 win. The Skyhawks scored all 58 of their points in the first half, causing a running clock in the second half ending the night early for Cheyenne.

What’s most impressive about the Skyhawks is how they have come as a program. Just a few years ago they only won a single game. But the administration stood by their decision to bring back former head coach Andy Ostolaza after that tough year and they are reaping the benefits. Ostolaza has given Silverado a winning foundation which has now turned into a culture. It starts in the classroom where Silverado boasts nearly a 3.0 GPA as a team. Next, the team be consistent on and off the field and in the classroom, and lastly, the players had to buy into the discipline and structure Ostolaza enforced. They did all three things and now it is translating on the field for the Skyhawks.

The most exciting game of the belonged in the matchup between two FSM Prep Rally Top 10 teams, Coronado and Spring Valley.

Coronado came into the week cracking the FSM Prep Rally Top 10. Coming in at number 10 this week, the Cougars took on the #9 ranked Spring Valley at home. This came had all the drama a football fan could want, with Coronado beating the Mustangs 25-21.

About halfway through the third quarter, and with the Cougars trailing by 11 points, there was a 30-minute game delay. The lights went out and that time allowed the Coronado to get their offense figured out and regroup.

The Cougars head coach, Fren Biletnikoff Jr., told reporters after the game, “We changed gears with what we were doing offensively in the second half, and I think our kids just wanted it a little moreWe beat one of the better teams in this city, and the credit goes to the kids, and the defense and the coaching staff.

Finally, Franchise Sports Media surprised Rancho High School as we also showed up to their Homecoming game against Eldorado on Friday night. Rancho and Silverado were the two teams that were vying in this week’s fan poll for FSM to show up to their school.

Both schools did so well we decided to go to both games.

The Rams were playing at home for the first time in almost two years and were ready to show off their new turf, new uniforms, and new toughness that Rancho head football coach Leon Evans is instilling in his alma mater. The Rams didn’t disappoint as they took it to Eldorado 34-7 in a Homecoming game win.
