Bishop Gorman rolled Palo 49-0 in a game that used to be one of the valley’s best rivalries. The Gaels offense was led by Sophomore quarterback Micah Alejado, who only played the first half and was 6 of 8 for 152 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target was junior wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who caught touchdown passes for 37 and 40 yards. Branch, who put on a first-half show in front of current USC receivers coach Keary Colbert who was in attendance along with the entire UNLV football staff, also had a punt return called back due to a clipping penalty.

We’ve got a stronger drive and a stronger will to get better,” Branch said after the game. “So we’re carrying that confidence over.”

With the game in hand, the Gaels tried a 44-yard field goal with 7 seconds remaining. Bishop Gorman wanted to see how the team would react in that situation and used the running clock as a teaching moment.

We’ve got a lot of stuff to work on,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said. “We’re kicking the field goal because we need to practice that kind of stuff. With a running clock, we don’t get opportunities like that normally, so we have to take that. It’s not being mean, we have to do stuff like that because what if we ever need it?

The Gaels have yet to give up a point on the season to another Las Vegas high school team, outscoring them 241-0.

On senior night, Basic beat Del Sol 38-0. But the story for the Wolves went deeper then what happened on the field Friday night.

Outstanding defense and special teams play paved the way for the Basic Wolves to come away with a 38-0 win. It was one of the fan poll FSM Games of the Week. The Wolves blocked 2 punts and had an interception in the victory.

We are trying to put it all together and hopefully be playing our best for a playoff run,Basic coach Jeff Cahill said.

But a player on Basic (who will remain nameless) reached out to us and told us his story. He is a senior, who’s mother passed away recently. He asked that FSM come to this game because he wanted to dedicate the game to her. She was supposed to walk him out like many other of the senior class parents with their players, but instead, he played the game with a heavy heart and in her honor. He explained that it would mean a lot to him to have us there, so we pulled up.

After the game, FSM reached out to him. We wanted to surprise him with 3 tickets to the UNLV vs Utah State game taking place Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. The tickets were donated by one of our great FSM writers, Rell Brown, and his family. Enjoy the game and get loud!

We at FSM feel that as a community we need to be there for each other in times of need.
