It’s the holiday season, and high school football is gifting Las Vegas an extra game this year! The Geico State Champions Bowl returns to Las Vegas as the  Bishop Gorman Gaels face off against the Chaminade-Madonna Lions from Hollywood, Florida.

 

After an exciting year of 702 HSFB, the season extends for one more game! The 2022 Geico State Champions Bowl takes place this Saturday, Dec. 17, at Bishop Gorman high school. Giving state champions from different states the opportunity to face off in a post-season bowl game, the 2022 Geico Bowl will feature the Nevada state champion Gaels facing off against the 2022 Florida state champs, the Chaminade-Madonna Lions.

Securing their 12th title this season, the Bishop Gorman Gaels were arguably one of the country’s best high school football teams this year.

The Gaels started the season facing one of the most demanding non-league schedules in the nation, which included a week two matchup with Mater Dei. At the time, the 13-1 Monarchs were the number-one ranked high school team in the country, and outside of their only loss in the California title game, Mater Dei faced the most adversity of their 2022 season during their 24-21 battle against Gorman.

Apart from their single loss, the Gaels dominated their opponents, both in-state and out. In their five non-league games, Bishop Gorman outscored their opponents 234 to 55 and went 4-1. Against Nevada opponents, the Gaels kept the opposition scoreless through six weeks and outscored their entire in-state schedule, 574 to 23.

With 16 players earning All-Southern Nevada honors, the Gaels were stacked with talent that helped them repeat as Nevada state champions and end the year as the 4th-ranked team in the country. With one last opportunity to showcase their capabilities, Bishop Gorman will look to put on a show in their first appearance in the Geico Bowl as they face the state champions from Florida, Chaminade-Madonna.

The current 5th-ranked team in the country, the Chaminade-Madonna Lions, went undefeated on their way to the 2022 Florida state championship.

The Lions outscored their opponents, 658 to 140, during the 2022 season and had a four-game streak in which they completely shut out their opponents. Chaminade-Madonna comes into this year’s Geico Bowl with one of the most stacked teams in the country, with four players receiving ESPN Jr300 honors. 

The Lions’ 2022 championship marks their 5th championship in the last seven years and their seventh title in school history. With an opportunity to face the 4th-ranked team in the country, Chaminade-Madonna will look to upset the Gaels and possibly earn a boost in their own national ranking.
