After a rough 1-3 start to their season, the Liberty Patriots endured the rocky start and seemed to get back to their usual form after racking off 5-straight victories and securing a League title. Since defeating Bishop Gorman back in 2019, Liberty has been viewed as one of the top teams in the valley and a potential threat to the powerhouse Gaels each year. The Patriots will hope to meet those expectations and begin their playoff run with a victory over the Foothill Falcons.

It has been a challenging year for the Falcons in 2022. Going 3-7 in the regular season, Foothill managed to perform well in league play, going 2-1 and securing a spot in this year’s playoff bracket. As tough as the regular season was, Foothill has a fresh start in the playoffs, along with the opportunity to continue their year with an upset victory.

The Gaels enjoyed plenty of success during this football season. After suffering their sole loss of the year against #1 nationally ranked Mater Dei in week 2, the Gaels looked absolutely dominant through the rest of the regular season. Through the last eight weeks of the season, the Gaels were undefeated and didn’t allow an opponent to score any points through the last five games of the year. It will be a challenge to defeat this year’s Bishop Gorman team as they look to secure their second straight state title.

Faith Lutheran comes into this week after a bumpy end to their regular season. The Crusaders started the year strong winning their first five games of the year, but struggled in the latter half of the season, going 1-3 in league play and losing their final two games of the year. The Crusaders will need to find the rhythm they had to open the season if they hope to have a chance to pull off the upset win on Thursday.

Sierra Vista vs Durango

Competing in a league with multiple contenders at the 4A level, Sierra Vista managed to put together a pretty successful campaign in the regular season. The 6-4 Mountain Lions began the year going 3-2 against non-league opponents. Sierra Vista then went on to rack off three victories in league play. As the Mountain Lions enter the postseason, they will look to revenge their week 2 loss against Durango and move forward to the Quarterfinals.

Similar to Sierra Vista, Durango also put together a formidable season and finished third in their league. The Trailblazers showed moments this year where they looked like contenders, such as when they won three straight games at the start of the year and went down to the wire against a strong Basic team in their final regular season game. This week, Durango will look to repeat the success they had against the Mountain Lions in Week 2 and move on to take on Silverado in the second round of the playoffs.
