New FSM Preview – Las Vegas High School Football – Week 9 – 2022

We are officially in week 9 of the 702 HSFB season and this week promises another round of great games throughout the valley. In week 9, the FSM Prep Rally travels to Lake Mead Academy as the 5-1 Eagles host the Needles Mustangs from California in the game of the week.

When Coach Nathaniel Oishi took over as the head football coach at Lake Mead Academy, he did so with a vision for his program.

Taking over in 2021, Oishi had a plan to turn the Eagles into a contender within five years. Now in his second season, the Eagles are 5-1 and are in a position to win a league title in the 2A Southern Football league this year.

Since Oishi and his staff took over in 2021, the Eagles have become one of the top teams at the 2A level, with a roster full of talented playmakers. Senior Zach Pantea has been on a roll this year through the air, passing for 1451-yards (4th in Nevada) and 18 touchdowns. Sophomore Bowe Farmer leads the team in receiving yards and is one of the top young players on the Eagles roster.

In addition, Defensively, juniors Caleb King, Zach Young, and Jacob Beza lead a defense that has shut out three different opponents this year. What started as a team with mostly first and second-year players on a 27-man roster, Coach Oishi and his staff have turned Lake Mead Academy into one of the best teams at the 2A level with plenty of talented players leading the team. 

Creating a winning program isn’t easy and requires the right people to accomplish it. However, as a staff of former UNLV and Pro players, the Lake Mead Academy coaches have collectively used their experiences at the highest levels of football to create a culture and find success coaching at the high school level.

In week 9, Lake Mead Academy faces out-of-state rival Needles from California. The Eagles have typically struggled when facing Needles and remain winless against the Mustangs. However, with a win this Friday, the Eagles can add another achievement to their successful season and demonstrate just how far the program has come since Coach Oishi arrived in 2021.
