FSM Presents: The FSM Prep Rally- The FSM Prep Rally- 2022 Las Vegas High School Football Preview
Welcome to The FSM Prep Rally on Franchise Sports Media. We proudly announce that Griffin Kemp will be previewing and recapping this upcoming football season, while Joe Arrigo and Big Ant will continue to host The FSM Prep Rally every week.
It has been eight-long months since the 2021 Nevada high school football season concluded, with all four state title games being played in Allegiant Stadium on November 18th. Finally, after enduring the grueling off-season, Nevada can rejoice over one simple fact: high school football is back!
The 2022 season brings some questions. Can Silverado repeat as 4-A champions? Will Liberty bounce back after critical losses to their quarterback and wide receiver positions? How will Las Vegas High School and Sierra Vista do with two young guns at QB? Who can stop Arbor View’s dynamic running back duo? And last but not least, will a very talented Bishop Gorman Gaels team find themselves in a position to win their fourth high school national championship?
With the start of the season just around the corner, it’s time to unveil the teams in our FSM Top-10 Rankings, ranked by FSM’s Joe Arrigo and Big Ant (Anthony Brenagh). There will be some debate regarding who is in, who is out, and who is ranked higher than others. It’s time to detail what to expect from each team as they enter the 2022 season and a few players to watch out for.
The FSM Prep Rally Pre-Season Top 10
#1 Bishop Gorman
The number 6th ranked team in the country according to MaxPreps; Bishop Gorman enters the new year hungry despite securing their 18th state championship in school history last year and as the top team in the FSM Prep Top-10 Rankings.
The Gaels come into the 2022 season with aspirations to continue their dominant streak in Nevada and to secure their 4th high school football national title, which would be their first since the 2016 season. With one of the most demanding non-league schedules in the country, which includes a date with #2 ranked Mater Dei at home in the second game of the season. The Gaels will be challenged early in their pursuit of national glory.
The reigning Nevada 5A state champions come ready for the challenge, though. With a roster that includes five of the top 10 players in Nevada, including the #1 ranked wide receiver in the country, Zachariah Branch. The Gaels are prepared to compete with anyone standing in their way.
Bishop Gorman starts the season on August 19th at home as they take on non-league opponent Corner Canyon from Utah.
#2 Liberty
After a disappointing loss to Bishop Gorman in the 2021 state semifinals, Liberty comes into the new season determined and ready to take on anyone.
Finishing last season with a record of 10-2, with their only two losses coming from Mater Dei and Bishop Gorman, it’s hard to doubt the Patriots and their chances of competing for a state title this year. However, if there is any room for concern, it could be due to their loss of the 2022 Nevada Player of the Year, Germie Bernard.
Despite the departer of Bernard, Liberty looks to have reloaded and will be ready to challenge the Gaels for a shot at the 5A Nevada state title.
Liberty opens the season on August 19th at home against a non-league opponent, Palo Verde.
#3 Silverado
Silverado enters the 2022 season as the defending Nevada 4A state champions, and the Skyhawks show no signs of slowing down in 2022.
Returning most of their roster, including senior athlete Donavyn Pellot, Coach Andy Ostolaza’s team seems equipped to continue their dominance in 2022. Led by Pellot, quarterback Brandon Tunnell, his twin brother, wide receiver/linebacker Bryson Tunnell, wide receiver/cornerback Shyne Johnson, and running back Caden Harris, Silverado will make it challenging for any team on Friday nights.
Posting the valley’s only undefeated record and outscoring their opponents 628-128 in 2021, the Skyhawks plan to continue their scoring supremacy and defensive dominance as they attempt to repeat as Nevada 4A state champs.
Silverado opens the season on August 19th on the road as they travel to play non-league opponent Centennial.
#4 Arbor View
Finishing 2nd in the 5A Southern-Desert league, Arbor View comes into 2022 looking to build off last season’s success.
Posting a record of 8-3, with their only losses coming from the two teams who competed in the 5A Southern Region state semifinals, the Aggies know they have what it takes to compete with the top dogs in the state.
Arbor View will be prepared to compete as they enter the 2022 season with one of the most dynamic backfields in the state, with Junior running back Makhai Donaldson and Senior running back Richard Washington.
Arbor View starts the season at home as they take on non-league opponent Snow Canyon from Utah on August 19th.
#5 Desert Pines
The Jaguars ended last season going 6-4 and finished 3rd in the 5A Southern-Mountain league. They will look to improve from where they left off in 2021 and hopefully compete against Liberty and Green Valley for the top spot in their league.
After losing some key players due to transferring out to attend schools in California and Arizona, Desert Pines will look to reload their roster before the start of the new year. However, despite their losses, they still stand as one of the more talented teams in their league and will be a threat in almost every game they play.
The Jaguars begin the season at home as they take on non-league opponent Orem high school from Utah on August 19th.
#6 Foothill
After being one of last year’s surprise teams and finishing the year with a playoff victory in the 5A region quarterfinals, Foothill comes into 2022 with intentions to expand on their previous year’s success.
The Falcons scored the third most points in their league in 2021 and finished 3rd in the 5A Southern-Desert league with a 3-1 league-play record. As the new season begins, they will look to compete against teams like Arbor View and Bishop Gorman for the top spot in the Southern-Desert league and go further into this year’s playoffs.
Foothill begins the season on the road as they take on non-league opponent Austintown-Fitch from Ohio on August 19th.
#7 Shadow Ridge
Finishing last year with a record of 9-3 and 2nd in the 4A Sky league, Shadow Ridge comes into the new season with momentum from the previous season.
Shadow Ridge was one game short of being crowned 4A Nevada state champs last year. Returning with a talented team, the Mustangs will lean on a solid running presence with intentions to get back to the title game and finish the season with a 4A state title.
The Mustangs begin their season at home as they take on non-league opponent Durango on August 18th.
#8 Green Valley
The Gators finished last season with a 7-3 record and placed 2nd in the 5A Southern-Mountain league. They concluded the season with a loss to Foothill in the region quarterfinals.
After scoring almost double the points of their opponents and finishing 2nd in league play in 2021, Green Valley comes into the new season with hopes of continuing their offensive productivity to compete with Liberty for the top spot in their league.
Green Valley opens the season on the road as they take on non-league opponent Palos Verdes from California on August 26th.
#9 Las Vegas
Finishing the 2021 season 1st in the 4A Mountain Football league and with an overall record of 7-4, Coach Erick Capetillo returns with a young but talented team. Led by senior cornerback Che Jones Jr. and talented sophomore quarterback Elijah Espinoza, the Wildcats are determined to improve from last year’s results.
After losing to Shadow Ridge in last year’s 4A state semifinals, the Wildcats come into the new season motivated to get one game further into this year’s playoffs and have a chance at a 4A state championship.
The Wildcats open the season at home as they take on non-league opponent Pine Creek from Colorado on August 26th.
#10 Coronado
Coronado finished the 2021 season with an impressive undefeated league-play record in the 4A Sky Football league and an overall record of 7-3.
The Cougars put together a successful 2021 season which concluded with a loss to the eventual 4A state champs Silverado in the state semifinals.
Led by head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr., the Cougars will start the 2022 season refreshed and prepared to compete with Silverado and Shadow Ridge for a shot at the 4A state title.
Coronado opens the season at home on August 19th as they take on non-league opponent Cimarron-Memorial.
