Coming into week five and facing their biggest test of the regular season, the #3 Silverado Skyhawks didn’t blink as they shut down #6 Coronado, 43-0.

Silverado was the better team Friday night as they completely shut down the Cougars in all three facets of the game. Offensively, the Skyhawks were able to put together consistent drives and were able to put up three touchdowns. The game’s final score speaks volumes for the defensive performance the Skyhawks put out on Friday. And special teams set the tone at the start of the game with a 90-yard touchdown return and a two-point conversion from the FSM Prep Rally Player of the Game, senior Donavyn Pellot.

The first quarter of the game was dominated by defense. After forcing Coronado to punt on their first offensive drive, Silverado would end the Cougar’s second drive with an interception from Pellot. After the turnover, both offenses struggled to score any points for the majority of the first quarter. It wasn’t until the final minutes of the period that Silverado marched 59-yards down the field to get the second score of the game with a 3-yard touchdown run by Pellot, making the score 15-0.

The second quarter began with Coronado putting together their first long offensive drive of the game. The Cougars ran the ball effectively and made it to Silverado’s 30-yard line. But Silverado’s defense would end the drive there as senior Bryson Tunnell would intercept a pass on 4th down and run all the way back for Silverado’s 3rd TD of the game, making the score 22-0. The Skyhawks would go on to score another touchdown right before the end of the half, making the score 29-0.

The Skyhawks continued to shut down Coronado in the second half as they scored two more offensive touchdowns and kept the Cougars scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Coronado Cougars have been a great team so far this year, but the performance of Silverado on Friday night proved that they are in a class of their own when it comes to the 4A Nevada Division.

Las Vegas Wildcats bring the bone home for the 25th straight year as they defeat Rancho in the Bone Game, 35-7.

The Wildcats notched another win in their historic rivalry with Rancho as they defeated the Rams 35-7 in the annual Bone Game.

The first quarter remained scoreless primarily as both teams struggled to put together any successful drives. However, the Wildcats finally put together a long series and scored before the end of the period with a 1-yard run from sophomore Elijah Espinoza.

The second quarter began with Las Vegas forced to punt and Rancho’s offense taking the field. However, the Rams’ offense could only stay on the field for two plays as the Wildcats‘ defense forced a fumble and ran it back to Rancho’s 1-yard line. Las Vegas would go on to score on the next offensive play with a touchdown pass from Espinoza. The Wildcats scored again on the following drive after blocking a punt and returning it for a touchdown, making the score 21-0 going into the half.

After two more Las Vegas touchdowns, Rancho finally got points on the board in the second half, making the game’s final score 35-7.

After winning Friday night and securing the Herkimer’s Bone for the 27th straight year, the Wildcat’s record moves to 3-1. With a winning record going into league play next week, the Las Vegas Wildcats have put themselves in an excellent position to compete for the top spot in the 4A Mountain Football League.
