FSM Essential Recap: Las Vegas High School Football Week 6- 2022

Week 6 consisted of multiple top FSM-ranked teams colliding as #2 Liberty traveled to #6 ranked Faith Lutheran for the FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week, and Bishop Gorman took on Arbor View in a battle between two top FSM-ranked teams.

The Patriots came into Friday night’s game with a record of 2-3, a somewhat surprising record for one of the best teams in the city. Despite their record, Liberty has remained the #2 best-ranked team all year as they suffered losses from multiple out-of-state teams. Week 6 gave the Patriots a chance to defend their high ranking as they faced off against the FSM #6 ranked Crusaders in the FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week.

Liberty secured a statement win this Friday as they out-performed the Faith Lutheran Crusaders, 41-6.

The Patriots seemed ready to face the undefeated FSM #6 ranked Crusaders from the start as they opened the first quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run on the game’s first offensive play. However, following the fast score, the Patriot defense forced Faith to punt. Once they received the ball back, Liberty’s offense scored another touchdown on the first play of their next drive with a 50-yard touchdown reception from the FSM Prep Rally Player of the Game, junior Jayden Robertson.

As the Patriot’s offense got off to a fast start, their defense remained solid throughout the game as they kept Faith Lutheran out of the endzone through all four quarters and only gave up two field goals.

After a challenging start to their 2022 season, Liberty seems to have gotten back on track and looks ready to compete in the second half of the year.

Green Valley upsets #7 Basic in the Henderson Bowl.

It wasn’t a pretty win by any means, but Green Valley again won the Henderson Bowl over #7 ranked Basic on Friday night. Green Valley was 0-4 coming into the game, and Basic was 5-0, but it gave credence to the notion the Gators weren’t a typical 0-4 team coming in or even a 1-4 one after it.

Justyn Delzeit threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Trey Glasper following a muffed Wolves punt on the first play of the fourth quarter to break open a 17-10 game, and visiting Green Valley’s rock-ribbed defense made it stand up for a 24-10 victory in the 30th renewal of the rivalry.

Green Valley took the lead on the game’s third play when Nathaniel Richter jumped a sideline route in front of the Basic bench and sprinted 45 yards with the first of the five intercepted passes.

It wasn’t a pretty win by any means. Green Valley was whistled 18 times for 205 yards in penalties. As for the penalties, Green Valley head coach Clay Mauro said the Gators would have to clean those up, but he attributed many personal fouls and chippiness to the emotion engendered by the rivalry.

“That’s a lot of us just being excited,” Mauro said.

Delzeit completed 16 of 24 passes for 217 yards and two TDs and was intercepted once to help Green Valley offset some of the yellow flags.

The Gaels cruise through the Aggies as #1 ranked Bishop Gorman defeats #3 ranked Arbor View, 63-0.

Leading up to week 6, Arbor View has defeated every opponent that has crossed their path. The Aggies were 4-0 through the first half of the season and looked as dangerous as any team in the city. That is until they faced Bishop Gorman in their 5th game of the season.

The Gaels began the game by scoring 28 unanswered points in the first quarter and completely shut down Arbor View’s offense as they remained scoreless throughout the exhibition.

Bishop Gorman would then go on to score 14 points in both the second and third quarters and finished the 4th quarter with their final score, finishing the game with a 63-0 victory.

Despite how great the Aggies have looked this season, their week six loss stood as a testament to how far they remain behind the national powerhouse Gaels. Still, with a half of the season remaining, the Aggies have time to learn from their first loss of the year and prepare to see the Gaels later down the line.
