The Aces’ season comes to an end as the Seattle Storm become WNBA champions for the second time in three years

 

 

For the 4th time in the WNBA history, Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm are WNBA champions. They defeated the Aces 92 to 59 in game 3 to complete the 3 game sweep. Breanna Stewart was named Finals MVP for the second time in her career and the second time in the past 3 seasons.   

The Aces played in their first WNBA finals since moving to Las Vegas but failed to win a game as the Storm just dominated all aspects of the game for 3 straight games.

 

 

Breanna Stewart led a Seattle offense that was the difference maker as Las Vegas could not contain them.

 

 

Game 3 started similarly to the way Games 1 and 2 did, and it was by both teams playing fast-paced on the offensive side. Both teams were led by their stars. A’ja Wilson had 14 points in the 1st quarter, while Breanna Stewart countered with 11 points of her own. Both of them, however, were held scoreless in the 2nd quarter. Las Vegas was held to just 13 points in the second quarter, which gave Seattle a 43-34 lead at the break.

To start the second half, the Storm went on a 19 to 6 run, separating themselves from the Aces. It led to a 27 point lead going into the 4th quarter in which the Aces looked like they were done. Seattle could feel the energy within their team and the Wubble that they would finish the series off tonight. The Aces were outscored 32-14 in the third quarter, and if you want to win a championship, you can’t have quarters like that.

It only got uglier for the Aces in the 4th quarter as the Storm ended up winning the game by a score of 92 to 59. Breanna Stewart had 26 points leading all players, while Jewell Loyd had a bounce-back game after her rough Game 2, scoring 19 points.

For Las Vegas, A’ja Wilson got off to an amazing start scoring 14 in the first quarter, but only scored 4 the rest of the game. Depth was talked about a lot leading into this series and how the Aces needed other players besides Wilson to step up. And they did not have that in game 3. Jackie Young came off the bench with 11 points, but she was the only other player with double-digit scoring.

 

 

It was a disappointing end to an overall fantastic season for the Aces

 

 

We see once again that the playoffs are completely different than the regular season. The Aces defeated the Storm both times they played season; however, when it mattered most, Breanna Stewart and company were too strong for the Aces to handle.

The Aces had an incredible season finishing as the top seed in the league with an 18-4 record and a finals appearance. A’ja Wilson won MVP, and Dearica Hamby, who was out for the finals, won Sixth Woman of the Year. Although it was a disappointing end to the season, Aces’ players and fans will look back at this season as a pretty remarkable one that achieved many individual and team goals.

 

The Seattle Storm were well deserving of the championship as they also had an 18-4 record in the regular season but followed it up with a 6-0 record in the playoffs. They finished it off with a dominating 33 point win in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals. In a unique, special year that we will never forget, Sue Bird got her 4th championship, and Breanna Stewart won Finals MVP for the second time in her career. Shouts out to the WNBA, our Las Vegas Aces, and everyone involved with the Wubble in Florida. It was an entertaining season and a welcomed escape from 2020.
