WNBA Finals Preview: Aces vs Storm – WNBA – Finals – Game 3

#1 Las Vegas Aces (18-4) | #2 Seattle Storm (18-4)

The Aces’ season is on the line in a must-win game 3 vs the Storm.

The Las Vegas Aces had a vision of hoisting their first WNBA title in the air after defeating the Connecticut Sun. Instead, they are looking to avoid being swept out of the WNBA Finals by the Seattle Storm.

The Aces will be leaning on star A’ja Wilson to lead them back in this series as they must win three straight to bring their first-ever championship to Las Vegas. However, it starts with one game, and the Aces need to focus on winning Game 3 before worrying about the rest of the series.

The Aces faced a similar deficit last series against the Sun. When they trailed 2-1 in that series, they went on to win two elimination games in a row. This time, they will have to win three against Breanna Stewart and this powerful Seattle team.

The Aces must continue to execute on offense to get back in this series

The Seattle Storm have shot lights out in the first two games of this series, and they aren’t showing signs of stopping this offensive production.

Breanna Stewart has led the Storm in the first two games scoring 37 points, the second-highest in WNBA Finals history, in Game 1, and followed it with a 22 point game in Game 2. The Storm had five players score in the double digits in Game 2, including three players having over 20 points. They shot the ball effectively all night.

Las Vegas has not shot the ball poorly this series, shooting over 50% in Game 2. Wilson had 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Angel McCoughtry also had 17 points as four Aces players had double digits scoring.

Head Coach Bill Laimbeer talked about the importance of getting offensive production from multiple players outside of just the WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson.

“Game three, we are going to need production from everybody out there, you know, McCoughtry gave us a great game, do I expect that next game? Probably not, but however I expect to go out there and play hard and not be afraid. We have to make shots, but the most important thing we have to do is take care of the basketball, so everybody in the locker room knows the mistakes that we made offensively and defensively. It takes a little more effort, and takes a lot more concentration for us to get out there and win again.”

The Aces will try to prevent the Storm from bringing home their 4th title in franchise history.

The Seattle Storm have a very similar team to the 2018 WNBA champions that also featured of 2018 WNBA MVP and 2018 Finals MVP Breanna Stewart. This team has been in this position before as they swept the Washington Mystics in 3 games in 2018. They are a team that never takes their foot off the gas pedal, no matter what the score or series lead is.

The Aces will leave it all out on the floor in Game 3 to try and force a Game 4 and keep their title hopes alive, while Seattle tries to go atop of the WNBA once again as 2020 champions.
