The Las Vegas Aces look to bounce back after getting dominated on both sides of the ball in game 1. The Connecticut Sun won the game 87-62 and were in total control all 40 minutes of the game. It was the lowest amount of points scored by the Aces all season, as they only shot 33% from the field.

Connecticut comes in having a regular-season record under .500, but that hasn’t stopped them as they are currently 3-0 in the playoffs after upsetting Chicago in round 1, followed by thumping Los Angeles in round 2 and then defeating the Aces in game 1.

The Sun shot lights out in game 1 of the series, shooting 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3. Jasmine Thomas had a career night, scoring 31 points on 13-18 shooting and was in control during the entire game. Alyssa Thomas also contributed offensively, getting 18 points of her own and five steals on the defensive end.

The Aces, on the other hand, did not have the same success shooting the basketball as the Sun did. Las Vegas was 1-14 shooting the ball from deep as Jackie Young, off the bench, was the only player able to knock one down. When asked about it, A’ja Wilson responded,

“We don’t even need to worry about the 3 point line right now. We need to worry about our defense.”

The 87 points given up were the 6th most points allowed by the Aces this season. They will need to be tougher on defense and the boards as they were outrebounded 39-29 on the glass.

A’ja Wilson thinks the game 1 loss will only help the Aces.

The Las Vegas Aces had a week off before game one against the Sun, which means they had plenty of rest, but it also showed they were a little rusty. The Aces have not lost two games in a row all season, as the game one loss was only their 5th loss of the year in total. However, the newly announced WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, explained how it was good for her team to get beat.

I think it was a great loss for us. I think we needed to get beat. They outworked us, they worked ten times harder than we did, and I think we needed that, we needed that slap in the face. Now we go back to the drawing board and see what went wrong, what we can improve on, and go from there.”

The Sun don’t care what their record is or how they got here, they just look to continue their red hot shooting in game two.  Meanwhile the Aces will try to answer and prove why they were the best team in the league in the regular season.
