The Oakland Athletics just called up their eighth overall prospect, third baseman, Sheldon Neuse from the Las Vegas Aviators. He had been batting .317/.389/.550 with 27 home run and three stolen bases in 560 plate appearances with Las Vegas. This is the second call-up from Triple-A by the Athletics this year, after they had previously called up Skye Bolt, an outfielder getting a call-up earlier in the year. Bolt’s appearance in the majors was short-lived as he managed to bat .143 in a total of seven at-bats. He is also regarded as one of the Athletic’s top prospects.

Aviators Sheldon Neuse Called Up To A's | Franchise Sports Media - The Home of Las Vegas SportsNeuse came over via trade of minor league players from the Washington Nationals. This was meant to be part of a rebuild for the Athletics. However, the A’s are currently in the hunt for the playoffs. This trade turned out well for the Athletics, as they received a couple of the top prospects in all of baseball, pitcherJesus Luzardo, and third-baseman, Sheldon Neuse. Luzardo, in six games with Las Vegas is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 24 strikeouts and 8 walks.

With the A’s Khris Davis away with the birth of his second child, Neuse got the call-up because he has played some outfield this season, with his main position being third. This is beneficial to him because it increases his chance of playing in the majors. With the injury to Bryant, Neuse was the logical choice due to there not being another top prospect who could play outfield before him.

The AAA level is meant for the major league teams to bring an experienced player to the majors on a day’s notice. They needed one here, and Sheldon Neuse got the call. Not just because of his performance this season, but because of his versatility as well. His first major league game that he could potentially play in is scheduled for 10:15 PST when the Oakland Athletics take on the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City. He is likely to stay in the Majors due to the rosters being expanded to 40 players on August 31st.
