FSM Essential Recap: Aviators vs Aces – Series 20
Las Vegas Aviators (51-53) | Reno Aces (60-45)
Game 6
After leading for seven innings, the bullpen woes struck one last time in this series. Five runs in the final two innings propelled Reno with the 11-7 win over Vegas.
The Aviators were the first to strike on offense last night, getting things going in the 2nd inning. Beau Taylor drove home Nate Mondou with a single to make it 1-0 before Cal Stevenson blasted his 2nd dinger of the season for two more runs.
The Aces had a response ready the very next inning; however, Cooper Hummel was the first to come through with a run-scoring double. Corbin Carroll came up right after to tie things at 3 with a dead-center 2-run shot.
Reno ultimately grabbed the 4-3 lead in the 5th inning after Buddy Kennedy scored a run with a groundout. Dominic Canzone added another run for the opposition after a seaming single that could only score 1. The Aviators used this to their advantage by getting out of the inning without further damage.

Adjustments certainly seemed to be made for the Vegas offense in the home half of the 5th. Cal Stevenson was the first of 3 batters to strike for dingers, blasting his 2nd of the game to cut it to 5-4. Sheldon Neuse came up immediately after to tie things at 5-5, the back-to-back moonshots brought the home crowd right back in it. Nate Mondou seemed to feed off the energy, and he then connected for a 2-run go-ahead home run that gave the Aviators a 7-5 lead.
Cooper Hummel brought another with a ground out the next inning, but the Aviators would hold Reno until the 8th. After Adam Kolarek got off to a great start in his first two innings, Riordan was forced to go to Garret Acton after the first two Reno batters reached. Wilmer Difo came on from the pinch-hit role to hammer the go-ahead bomb as 3 runners crossed home, the frustrations hit once again, falling behind 9-7.
There was no answer to be found in the final innings for Vegas. Dominic Canzone added his 11th home run of the season in the away 9th for two insurance runs. One may have been able to call that shot the dagger, but the domination Reno displayed all week was on the level of complete control.

The Aviators head to Tacoma for a 7-game series against the Rainers this week. Saturday will consist of a doubleheader as part of a makeup game, with the series kicking off Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
Game 5
The struggles remained on both sides of the equation for the Aviators last night. They were dominated by Reno again 12-3.
Stone Garrett placed himself in front of the home run category to start the scoring. His 28th provided two runs for Reno, and they grabbed the lead as the hit party was just beginning. Yonny Hernadez capitalized by making it 3-0 in the 3rd with a run-scoring single, all before the Aviators could finally strike on the board.
Nate Mondou brought it to a 2-run game in the home half of the 4th, smoking a single to score Matt Davidson. The bases would ultimately be loaded as the inning transpired, but Reno escaped without allowing further damage. And as the trend of letting things escalate continued, it would be nothing but frustration for the home pitching staff after.

Jancarlos Cintron got himself on the board in the home run department with his 1st of the year to lead off the 5th. Cooper Hummel continued the inning for Reno by doubling home a run to make it 5-1. Garrett later drove home another with a sac-fly. The Aces went quiet for the next two innings, but with the home offense nowhere to be found, they stepped it up a notch in the 8th.
Vegas allowed six runs on seven hits, including another run driven home by Garrett that ultimately made it 12-1. The Aces recorded 16 hits overall, with red-hot Dominic Fletcher the only member of the lineup without a hit. The opposing starter Drey Jameson had been struggling before last night, but he also had the Aviators’ number on seven innings of 1-run work while striking out 7.
The Aviators manufactured two runs in the bottom of the 8th, but their fate had long been sealed. Reno has now taken 5 of 6, aiming for the sweep tonight as the series ends. Now dropping below .500 in the win-loss column, the Aviators need a morale-boosting performance before heading to Tacoma.

The Aviators continue the action against the Reno Aces at 7:05 pm for the home crowd.
Game 4
After leading through the first 8, things turned sideways again in the 9th. The Aviators fell 6-5 to Reno.
Cooper Hummel wasted no time picking up last game’s dominant performance in the 1st. He led off the game by lifting his 5th home run of the season over the wall, putting Reno up 1-0. Vegas had an immediate answer for the opposition in the home half; however, Nate Mondou brought in the game-tying run with a sac fly. Shea Langeliers followed up by putting them ahead 2-1 with a run-scoring single.
Langeliers has undoubtedly been one of the most reliable performers for the Aviator offense all season, stepping up again for the momentum change. He followed his clutch hit from the 1st with another RBI single in the 3rd, both perfectly placed hits in front of the defenders. Vince Fernandez finally broke things open for his clubhouse, doubling home two runs in the 5th to put the aviators up by 4.

Last night’s display for the offense may have been a big bright spot for this series as we advance, but Jared Koenig also notably handled things phenomenally on the mound. He went seven innings with only one mistake to the very first batter he faced, striking out 6 to put Reno in check.
The Aces seemed to be waiting for the bullpen to take over all game, and the script indeed flipped in the away 8th. Cooper Hummel connected on another solo shot to trim it to a 3-run lead, and he now has six at the AAA level. No one has more home runs than Stone Garrett; however, he later brought it to a 5-4 game with a 2-run missile. His 27 home runs are tied with Ryan Ward for the most out of any hitter in AAA.
Dominic Miroglio ultimately completed the dreaded comeback the home team feared. He hammered the go-ahead 2-run blast off Garret Acton with only two outs to go. The offense went down easily in the home half, with Reno ahead in the first four games of this series.

The Aviators continue the action against the Reno Aces at 7:05 p.m. Each game in the 6-game series will have the first pitch at 7:05 for the home crowd.
Game 3
It was a night to forget for the offense and pitching staff in this one for the Aviators. They fell 15-1 as the Aces failed to show any mercy.
Matt Davidson put Vegas on top first to open the scoring. He brought in Cal Stevenson after grounding into a double play. It was all downhill from there. The offense would go dead silent. The only two runs scored in the past two games have been on double plays with no outs. Not even the runs are pretty right now.
Yonny Hernandez and Corbin Carrol gave Reno the 2-1 lead in the 3rd after they both manufactured runs home. The offense began to improve from there; Stone Garrett followed up the next inning by blasting his 26th home run of the season to put the Aces up 2.

Buddy Kennedy later drove home a pair with a single in the 5th, as the home crowd was helpless in watching this onslaught unfold. The Aces would keep at it with two straight 4-run innings to ultimately grab a 13-1 lead. Dominic Miroglio was the main factor of this rally, providing a 2-run shot and a 2-run double that left the pitching staff dumbfounded.
Dominic Canzone made sure to join the party in the away 9th. He connected on a 2-run bomb before this embarrassing night could finally be put to a close for Vegas.

Game 2
Five runs in the final two innings for Reno provided the difference last night. After Vegas led for the majority, the Aviators fell 7-4 to the Aces.
Luis Barrera struck first for the home offense after a rough Game 1, singling home a run in the 1st to make it 1-0. Vegas would hold on to the lead until the 5th, grabbing another run thanks to Matt Davidson connecting on his 19th home run of the season to make it a 2-run leader.
Things appeared to be different early on. JP Sears had the Aces scoreless through his first four innings of work. He failed to make it through the 5th. However, Camden Duzenack finally figured him out for a game-tying 2-run bomb to left-center. This may have forced Sears out, but the game was still up for grabs with only one mistake to his name.

A strange play in the home half of the inning helped the Aviators grab the lead right back. The swing appeared to distract catcher Cooper Hummel. However, Vegas took what they could get to jump back ahead. With Christian Pache on second, Riordan sent him to steal 3rd as Neuse struck out, but the throw was errant, and the run scored to make it 3-2.
The momentum was short-lived, unfortunately for the home crowd; the Aces would band together to grab the lead in the 8th. Fletcher tied things with a run-scoring single before Jake Hager doubled the go-ahead run home before the inning could finally end. However, the Aviators had an answer in the home half again, with Neuse coming through traditionally on a game-tying single.
The bullpen failed to keep it tied, going into the bottom of the 9th following the clutch hit. However, Hummel redeemed himself by singling home the winning run to make it 5-4. It led to Wilmer Difo connecting on the dagger, a crowd-silencing 2-run shot for his 5th of the season, ultimately securing their second straight win in this series.

Game 1
The Aviators could only muster one run in the series opener against Reno Tuesday night, falling to the Aces 4-1.
Vegas had a rocky start in the very 1st inning of this series. Starter Zach Logue immediately loaded the bases with just one out. The Aces jumped on the board first thanks to a run-scoring single by Dominic Fletcher, but Logue escaped the inning without allowing further damage.
The Aviator’s offense was dead silent through the first three innings, allowing Reno to tack on one more run in the 3rd. Reno’s Jake Hager brought in the run with a single of his own to make it 2-0. The Aviators were then able to bring it to a 1-run game in the home half of the 4th. However, Vince Fernandez grounded into a double play with runners on the corners to score Luis Barrera.

Because this was the only production the offense could gather, the Aces quickly grabbed more insurance in the 6th with two more runs. Dominic Canzone connected for his 9th home run of the season towards the pool, and that was all Reno needed to make the opening statement.
Seven strong innings of 1-run ball by the opposing starter Ryne Nelson was the leading factor behind the Aviator’s quiet night. However, after a tough road trip of 2-7 play for Vegas, the Aviators are looking to find some positive momentum.
The bottom of the lineup went 1-16 overall, as the opportunities were also not there. This Aviators team hopes to band together and look for more chances to score runs tonight from either a big home run or scratching and clawing their way on the scoreboard.
