Golden Knights vs Tampa Bay Lightning

Wednesday afternoon, ESPN sources reported a major trade deal that could change the outcome of the season for the Las Vegas Golden Knights (31-22-8).

The agreement with the LA Kings is for veteran defensemen Alec Martinez who is seen as the most sought after defensive player on the free-agent market. The move is coming just before the Golden Knights play what might be the hottest team in the NHL Thursday night in the Tampa Bay Lightning (40-15-5).

The Rays, currently on an 11 game win streak, come into the T-Mobile arena looking to keep the recently well playing Golden Knights from continuing their current home winning streak after holding off the Washington Capitals on Monday winning 3-2.
The addition of another talented defenseman in Alec Martinez may bolster the Golden Knights’ defense enough to keep the Rays from spoiling their three-game win streak.

With both teams coming into the games playing well, Thursday night may look similar to the game these two teams played seven games ago in Tampa that came down to the final minute.   An open net goal by Alex Killhorn with 45 seconds sealed the game for the Lightning sending the Knights home in defeat after a hard-fought contest.

This time around, the Golden Knights are more of a complete team. They are finding their groove at the right time and placing themselves in a tied position for first place in the Pacific division. Vegas will have their sights on avenging the last-minute loss they took in Tampa 16 days ago.

For Tampa, star Right Winger Nikita Kucherov is on fire, coming into the game leading the Lightning in every Major offensive category, a feat that propelled the Lightning to the top of the NHL, as the only team with 40 wins in the entire league. However, the Rays are still only one point behind Boston in the Atlantic division, which is also keeping the Lightning from the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference as the playoff quickly approaches.

Both teams had playoff aspirations, and Thursday’s game will be a crucial matchup. The Vegas Golden Knight faithful hope that their team can continue it’s outstanding play while the red hot Tampa Bay Lightning look to take their place atop the NHL.

The game will be played at T-Mobile arena tonight at 7 P.M.
