MATCH RECAP: Las Vegas Lights FC vs Real Monarchs SLC | Franchise Sports Media - The Home of Las Vegas Sports

Lights FC traveled to Utah for a tough road match against Real Monarchs SLC. In desperate need of all three points in a close playoff race, Lights FC were unsuccessful in obtaining a huge win. Unfortunately, they had to settle for the one point due to the 2-2 draw.

Manager Eric Wynalda put together an aggressive high press game plan that was successful early in the match. Christian Torres scored on a left-footed kick to get things started early for Lights FC in the ninth minute. The high press forced a steal that allowed Junior Sandoval to lob a pass to Torres for the early goal.

In the 39th minute, Las Vegas defender Gabe Robinson was called for a handball by the referee. The penalty led to Real Monarchs captain Jack Blake scoring on a penalty kick in the 41st minute to tie the game at 1 heading into halftime.

Late in the second half, the Lights capitalized on a counterattack off a long throw-in. Tabort Etaka Preston found himself in a one-on-one opportunity against Andrew Putna, Real Monarchs goalkeeper, and was able to score his fifth goal of the year to give Lights FC a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute.

However Real Monarchs took advantage of the six minutes of added time and scored at the very end of the match. Once again it was Jack Blake for Real Monarchs to tie the game at 2 at 90+6. Blake’s goal left the match ending at a 2-2 draw.

“Despite the result, the fight that we demonstrated tonight was amazing,” said Lights FC manager Eric Wynalda.

Lights FC will now head back to Las Vegas for the match against El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday, September 7. At halftime, a helicopter will drop $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in “Plaza Bucks” from the Plaza Hotel & Casino.
