Runnin’ Rebels (11-12, 6-4) | Rams (16-8, 7-4)

The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels were unable to steal a win on the road against Colorado State on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Losing the game 95-77, which means the Rebels are now sitting at an 11-12 record. The loss has dropped UNLV from second to fourth place in the Mountain West Conference standings and moved Colorado State to the second spot.

Isaiah Stevens had 21 points for Colorado State (16-8). Backing him up was Nico Carvacho, who scored 16 points and 11 rebounds. David Roddy added 14 points, and Adam Thistlewood had 12 points. This win was Colorado State’s sixth straight home victory.

Colorado State, all-around, had a lot of contributing factors when it came to securing the win over UNLV.

The turning point in the game for the Rams came when Niko Medved called a timeout with 3:39 left in the first half to stop a UNLV run. Colorado State trailed at the time by eight (33-25) and was having a tough time getting anything going. Coming off the timeout led to the Rams going on a run and never looking back.

“I feel like it was personally re-grouping and not dwelling on what happened the possessions before,” Isaiah Stevens said. “Just come out and try and stop the run but we’re going to go on a run of our own.”

Meanwhile, for the Runnin’ Rebels, Bryce Hamilton continues with his consistent scoring effort, tallying 28 points. Backing him up on the offensive end was Donnie Tillman with 15 points. UNLV has been struggling to find their rhythm as of late, losing their last 3 games. However, looking at the other side of the coin for the Rebels, they have the opportunity to get back on track if they can secure the win in their next game on Wednesday against Utah State as UNLV took that game 70-53 in their previous meeting on January 1st.

Despite the past few weeks not going as planned for UNLV, there is still some upside for them. The Rebels will need to put this game behind them and learn from their mistakes so they can capitalize next time out.
