Dodgers On Deck: Dodgers vs Giants
The Boys in blue just keep rolling along with another series win as they rally in late innings, a true testament to a very good ballclub. When the bats come alive, pitchers best be cautious, because the Dodgers can turn the tide in an instant. The Dodgers took the 3-game series at home against the San Francisco Giants with a few hiccups along the way, but a series win nonetheless, and now it’s on to the next.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants
Game 1 Win 7-2
Dodgers were able to take game 1 of the series with a furious display of offense, which exploded in the middle innings. Corey Seager exited the game with low back soreness in the 3rd inning and was out for the rest of the series. His status has been marked day to day with discomfort, and hopefully, he will be added back to the lineup soon.
The Giants were able to get on the board first thanks to a single by 2B Donovan Solano to bring in a run. Mookie Betts would hit his third home run of the year to tie the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning, following with a single from Justin Turner to bring in Cody Bellinger. It was at this point that the Dodgers never looked back.
Both Max Muncy and Will Smith would homer in the 4th, Chris Taylor would add a run in the 5th, and Edwin Rios would hit a home run in the 8th to seal the deal for the win. The pitching staff was on point on this night, allowing the Giants only to score two runs.
Game 2 – Loss 4-5
The Dodgers’ lineup had a pretty tough time at the plate thanks to the Giants’ pitching staff’s solid pitching performance. On the other side, the Giants were able to get to Clayton Kershaw early, also achieving another type of personal win against the ace on the mound in the process.
This was Clayton Kershaw’s (4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6 SO) first start against the Giants, where he allowed three home runs in a single game. Giants OF Austin Slater, and OF Mike Yastrzemski were obviously seeing the ball very well against the left-handed veteran pitcher, as they both homered in the 3rd inning, and Slater would repeat the process in the 5th.
The Dodgers came roaring back in the 6th, in a flurry of hits that brought them back into the game and almost stole the win. RHP Johnny Cueto had a no-hitter going into the 6th when he slowly began to unravel after Hunter Pence lost track of a routine flyball.
In the 6th, Enrique Hernandez tripled and would eventually score, Joc Pederson and Cody Bellinger were walked, then Justin Turner came in huge with a 3-run home run, his 1st of the season. Cueto would exit the game but still get the win as the Giants bullpen would keep the Dodgers guessing for the following inning to hold on to the lead and win the game.
The offense just struggled all game and only had signs of life in the 6th. The Giants accumulated ten hits to the Dodgers 2, quite the deficit. Luckily the two hits accounted for were home runs.
Game 3 – Win 6-2
It took six innings, but the Dodgers offense finally came to life during the 7th. The Giants were on the board first by a single by Mike Yastrzemski, bringing in 2-runs that would be the only damage done to the Dodgers immaculate pitching staff. Walker Buehler (5 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO) had a solid pitching start, but the bullpen was lights-out in keeping the Giants at bay.
Enter the 7th inning, the rally would begin with Cody Bellinger hitting a single, and Justin Turner hit a single of his own. With two men on, and after Max Muncy would strike out, AJ Pollock would deliver a big 3-run blast to take the lead.
In the 8th inning, Mookie Betts would deliver the fatal blow with another 3-run home run, leading to another series win.
San Diego Padres Series Preview
After some exciting games this past week, The San Diego Padres (8-7) and Los Angeles Dodgers (10-5) will face off once again for a 4-game series, but this time in Dodgers’ territory. After winning the best of 3 against the Diamondbacks, and with Fernando Tatis Jr, just being a complete hitting machine at the plate, their momentum seems to be back on track after the series loss against the Dodgers. No longer do they have the same record; a series sweep will be the Padres desired result.
