The Dodgers tried to send the San Diego Padres packing in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

 

Game 3 – WIN – 12-3

 

The National League Division Series Game 3 with the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers was an elimination game for the Padres. They needed to do their best job of impersonating the regular season team everyone saw over the last couple of months. The Dodgers being in control of this series, sets up the next series perfectly. If they could sweep the Padres, it would line them up well with the Atlanta Braves, who just swept the Miami Marlins and advanced to the National League Championship series themselves.

If the Braves had any extended time off while waiting for the winner of the Padres and Dodgers series, it would’ve given them an advantage with pitching and hitting, especially against LA. Atlanta players would be well rested for an upcoming series with no days off for either team, making it even more important for the sweep and have a fully rested Dodgers bullpen.

Game three’s pitching matchup had Dustin May going against Adrian Morejon, two young flame throwers who can be unhittable at times for their respective teams. Dustin May opened and, to Dodgers’ fans surprise, pitched just one inning with a strikeout and a walk. Morejon stayed out for two innings and really struggled with control while taking the loss for the Padres. Morejon walked two batters and gave up three runs in his two innings. The rest of the Padres pitchers got shuffled around like cards, and no pitchers stayed out for more than two thirds into the fifth. This Dodgers lineup had Jayce Tingler on the bullpen phone all night. The Padres gave up eight hits and seven runs to L.A. through four innings. Being that it was an elimination game for the Padres, they had all hands on deck in the pitching department.

 

The Dodgers gave the Padres the blues as the game went on.

 

 

Fernanado Tatis Jr made a throwing error in the third inning, and the Dodgers put their foot on the pedal and never looked back. Corey Seager had the infield single that set up the throwing error, then Justin Turner, A.J. Pollock, and Joc Pederson all had singles that scored runs and put the Dodgers up 6-2 by the end of the inning. Hitting like this in a postseason elimination game is how teams win championships, and it absolutely demoralizes another team.  Scoring had been scarce for both teams for three innings until Julio Urias put 3 batters on and then balked to score Manny Machado and move Eric Hosmer to third. Urias would get the next three batters out and not see any more damage to the lead.

Julio Urias recorded six strikeouts in his five-inning outing and broke a Dodgers record with the most strikeouts by a reliever. The Dodgers went into the ninth with an 8-3 lead, and Will Smith got his fifth hit of the night, becoming the first Dodger to do so in a Postseason game, even with all the star players current and retired. Cody Bellinger hit a triple in the ninth to clear the bases and add a few more insurance runs to extend the lead to 12-3.

Dylan Floro got the call from Dave Roberts to try and record the last three outs. He cruised through the bottom of the ninth, struck out the final batter, and sent the Dodgers to face the Braves in the National League Championship Series.

 

 

Dodgers vs Braves National Championship Series Preview

 

The Dodgers will play the Braves in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Monday. The Atlanta Braves swept their series against the Miami Marlins and will look to jump on Los Angeles pitchers in the first game. This should be a pretty evenly matched series; both teams have young pitchers and star offensive players. These two teams play very similar and should put on a show for baseball fans.
