The Dodgers continue towards the trade deadline with another series win. After being blanked in the first game, the boys in blue fired on all cylinders to regain their momentum and take games two and three. The glow of the postseason lights illuminate in the distance, and the Dodgers keep on trucking.

Dustin May (6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER 3 SO’s) put in a solid six innings of work giving up two runs in the third to Shin-Soo Choo and Nick Solak. The Dodgers’ offense stuttered until the seventh inning when they were finally able to get on the board against reliever Joe Rodriguez. Starter for the Texas Rangers, Mike Minor (6 IP, 4 Hs, 0 ER, 6 SO) was in top form and through six innings kept the Dodgers on uneven ground.

Corey Seager and Justin Turner brought in runs with a double and a single, but unfortunately, that would be all she wrote for the Dodgers lineup on the night. In the seventh inning, reliever Jake McGee instantly found himself in deep water with a home run from Derek Dietrich, and two back to back singles to keep the pressure cooking. The duo of Shin-Soo Choo and Nick Solak again tallied more runs to the board, pulling the game farther out of reach, and earning the Rangers the win.

Game 2 – Win 7-4

In a much closer contest, The Dodgers were able to pull out the victory with a strong bullpen and the power bats of Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy to secure the wins in later innings. Ross Stripling (4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 SO) struggled on the mound, starting after the third inning. It has become the norm for the Dodgers pitching staff to only go a few innings, besides Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May, as the bullpen is utilized in a more significant way this season.

To back up Ross Stripling, Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer in the third. Max Muncy hit a three-run blast to center field to put the Dodgers way ahead in the 7th (7-3) The Rangers would add one more run, but Kenley Jansen would record the save, tying a record with Goose Gossage for career saves at 310.

The Dodgers came swinging, that is for sure. The power bats of Corey Seager, Will Smith, and Cody Bellinger put the Dodgers out in front and then some. Seager hit a solo home run in the first, Will Smith homering in the second, and Cody Bellinger with a 2-run shot to give the Dodgers pitching staff some definite cushion for the later innings.

The Dodgers pitchers were on point, only giving up two runs, one coming in the third behind a wild pitch from Tony Gonsolin (3 IP, 3  H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO). Gonsolin, no longer with a 0.00 ERA, still looked good on the bump, and the bullpen followed suit. The Dodgers allowed just one more run in the fourth from a sac fly. The rest of the way, they were lights out.

Mookie Betts, (3 AB, 2 Hits, 2 RBI’s, 1 BB, 1 SO) was in top form and Corey Seager (5 AB, 2 H’s, 2 RBI’s, 1 R, 1 SO) has been extremely hot ever since he came back from injury. The Dodgers take games two and three to win another series.

Arizona Diamondbacks Series Preview

The Diamondbacks, coming off a losing series against the San Francisco Giants, are looking to get back on track and end this string of losses. It must start with their hitting. Struggling at the plate and wishy-washy pitching performances put them in danger of losing another series. They’ve lost nine of their last ten games. Things might start to get interesting with the trade deadline approaching. Stories are already beginning to circulate that Arizona may be open to trading Starling Marte and Archie Bradley
