In the Main Event of the night, we were introduced to a new and improved version of Brian Ortega who outclassed The Korean Zombie to earn a unanimous decision victory (50-45 on all three scorecards) in a one-sided affair.

From start to finish, Ortega (15-1) showed that the time away from the Octagon allowed him to grow as a fighter as he would show off his standup game against one of the more feared standup fighters in the 145lbs division. Utilizing a stiff jab and excellent foot movement, Ortega threw in a well-timed in a spinning elbow that dropped The Zombie in the second round.

Threatening with takedowns and right hooks, Ortega kept his opponent at bay and didn’t allow him to really get going. Every time The Korean Zombie looked to turn up the pressure, Ortega would land a shot or two, circle out, and halt any attack with either a jab, leg kick, or changing levels making Zombie think of the takedown coming.

It was a truly well-round performance for 25 minutes for T-City, who had been out of action for over 600 days. Ortega looked as sharp as ever with his new camp and attitude towards rounding out his game to be a complete fighter. The Korean Zombie (16-7) will go back to the drawing board and look to get himself back in the winner’s circle. Despite the one-sided loss, Zombie figures too still to be among the best in the weight class and will get another high-level fighter in his next outing to work his way back towards getting a future title shot.

With this victory, Ortega will be next to challenge current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski for the title. Given his standup improvements and showing he isn’t just rushing in for a takedown to apply his high-level Jiu-Jitsu. Ortega will certainly present some challenges for the champion. Still, Volkanovski has shown he is up to whatever is put in front of him and will certainly be there all the way if need be to get the win. These two squaring up in the octagon down the road will be a fun affair to see.

In the Co-Main Event, former women’s strawweight champion Jéssica Andrade (21-8 8 KOs) picked up a first-round TKO over the number one contender at 125 lbs, Katlyn Chookagian (14-4).

From start to finish, Andrade looked to get inside to take away the height advantage held by Chookagian, which was nearly 8 inches over the former champion. Ripping the body with vicious rights, Andrade hurt Chookagian and forced her to back away and fold down against the cage shortly after. With this victory, the Brazilian showed she is a force to be reckoned with in her new division, and she becomes the first UFC women’s fighter to have a victory in 3 different weight classes (135lbs, 115lbs, and now 125lbs).

Looking to see herself standing across the champion Valentina Shevchenko someday down the road, Andrade becomes a new name to challenge the dominant champion and is very likely next up for the champion, possibly sometime early in 2021.

Another good night of fights in the books as the UFC continues to entertain us week after week during this period we’ve been in. The night was fun and exciting and we were entertained by some fantastic performances.
