In the night’s main event, two Brazilians took center stage as they looked to showcase their skills to see if they could cement their name next in line for a title shot at 205lbs.

Winning via third-round rear-naked choke submission, Glover Teixeira (32-7 9 SUBs) spoiled the return to the octagon of Thiago Santos (21-8) after more than a year away from the fight game.

Coming in, this was a matchup that would unfold in a manner of who could inflict their will on their opponent first and often? Could Santos keep the fight standing and utilize his fast hands and hammer-like power? Would Teixeira be able to get the fight to the mat and apply his top-level ground and pound paired with his world champion Jiu-Jitsu skills?

In the opening moments of the first round, Santos would land a combination that stunned and backed up his opponent. It seemed the Brazilian hadn’t lost a step and would return with a highlight finish. But the savvy and tough veteran that Teixeira is, he was able to land a double leg takedown, withstand the storm, and find himself in top position to apply strikes for the remainder of the round.

Nearly the entire second round saw Teixeira on top and controlling the action to the point that he most likely won the round 10-8. With a plea from his corner to keep the fight standing, Santos stuffed a takedown in the opening of the third round and dropped Teixeira. Now looking like he might get the finish he was close to getting in the first, Teixeira once again kept his composure and found himself taking the back of Santos and locking in a submission for the tap out.

With five wins in a row and one over the number 1 contender in the division, Teixeira surely has a strong resume to call for a title shot in 2021 against Jan Blachowicz. Will it happen? That remains to be seen. But what we do know is despite being 41 years old, Glover is showing that age is merely a number.

Santos suffers his first back to back losses since 2016. Now healthy, look for the hard hitter to return with a vengeance next year as he looks to find himself back in the winner’s circle.

Another good fight card is in the books as the UFC continues to entertain us week after week during this period we’ve been in. Whether we are watching champions, former champions, title contenders, or up and comers, the UFC will continue to give us entertaining fight cards to enjoy.
