The UFC is back in action from Houston, Texas, as the big boys take the stage when Derrick Lewis (25-7 20 KOs) battles Ciryl Gane (9-0 3 KOs) for the interim heavyweight championship.

These two heavy hitters want to showcase their skills on the biggest stage and add some UFC gold to their impressive resumes. While the current heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will be ready to return hopefully by the end of the year, the division is set to rock and roll forward with putting the interim title around either of these deserving warriors.

Having started his MMA career in 2018, Gane has transitioned from undefeated world champion kickboxer (13-0 9 KOs) to already in a title bout in the world’s biggest MMA organization, the UFC. Combining kicks and punches and excellent timing and accuracy, Gane has shown to be a tough puzzle for opponents to figure out. Gane does a good job of using footwork, throwing faints, and mixing up his combos to keep his foes off guard, never knowing what’s coming next. Add that with his finishing power, and it’s easy to see why he’s rose up the heavyweight ranks at such an alarming pace.

Gane rose up the ranks because his opponent Lewis has put many contenders in the division to sleep with his incredible knockout power. Riding a four-fight winning streak, Lewis is fighting in his hometown, looking to see his hand raised and bring a title to H-Town. Always a threat to land a devastating knockout blow, Lewis is one of the more feared fighters in the sport. Dealing back issues most of his career, Lewis has maintained that part of the reason he’s on this current win streak is that he feels he’s had those problems and fixed which has allowed him to work harder in the gym and show up to fights in better shape. Lewis has shown that with his punching power, whether it’s the first round or the last minute of the fight, you better be on point; otherwise, it could all end in a blink of an eye.

The UFC was forced to postpone a title fight in the women’s Bantamweight division between champion Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena as the champion, unfortunately, tested positive for COVID-19. These two will battle hopefully later in the year once Nunes has fully recovered.

The new co-main event will feature former featherweight champion Jose Aldo (29-7 7 KOs) taking on fellow Brazilian Pedro Munhoz (19-5 8 SUBs) in the Bantamweight division. These two gladiators are looking to keep their momentum from this year on the positive side and work their way to being one step closer to a possible title shot in the near future.

With the change, UFC 265 lineup now looks like this:

  • Derek Lewis vs. Ciryl Gane
  • Jose Aldo vs. Pedro Munhoz
  • Michael Chiesa vs. Vincente Luque
  • Tecia Torres vs. Angela Hill
