Throughout his career, Henry Cejudo (16-2-0) has always strived to be the best. Whether securing gold in the Olympics or collecting titles in MMA“Triple C” always strived to be the best who ever did it. This mindset ultimately led to his exit from MMA in 2020 at UFC 249.

After defending his second title against Dominick Cruz, “Triple C” believed he had accomplished everything possible in MMA and officially stepped away from the UFC. Cejudo retired after becoming the seventh fighter in UFC history to hold a title in two different divisions and only the fourth fighter to hold two titles simultaneously.

At the time, it seemed as though the flyweight and bantamweight champion was content with calling it a career. Now, after three years away from the sport, Cejudo has returned with the same drive to be the best and a new goal to accomplish it.

UFC 288 – Aljamain Sterling vs Henry Cejudo looks to be another epic fight.

With aspirations to be known as the GOAT of MMA, reclaiming his old belt is only part of Cejudo’s ultimate goal.

As a former two-division champion and Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, Cejudo was already a star-level draw for the UFC. Securing his former title after a three-year layoff would all but guarantee Cejudo’s case for a champ vs champ super fight.

As for the opponent, Cejudo has already made it known which champion will be his next target. A champion who recently attempted to claim his own “Champ Champ status” earlier this year at UFC 284, Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski.

Defeating another MMA great in Volkanovski and becoming the first three-division champion is truly legendary. But, before Cejudo can plan a run for his third division title, the former bantamweight champion must face the current king at 135 pounds, the “Funk Master.”

Henry Cejudo looks to win another title.

Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling (22-3-0) has displayed his perseverance and dominance on his way to the top of the bantamweight division.

In his first title fight against Petr Yan at UFC 259, Sterling received the belt after Yan was disqualified for an illegal knee. Though Sterling held the bantamweight title, he was not well-received as champion.

The “Funk Master” was criticized for not officially defeating Yan to earn the belt and received plenty of public scrutiny.

Sterling recognized his critics’ claims and decided to give them what they wanted. Sterling would face Yan again at UFC 273 to show who truly was the greatest at 135 pounds. Through five rounds of the rematch, Sterling manhandled Yan and displayed his wrestling superiority as he secured the decision victory and solidified his title.

Sterling would then face another former champion, TJ Dillashaw, at UFC 280. Though Dillashaw was once a dangerous champion at bantamweight, Sterling made quick work of him with a second-round TKO. The victory gave Sterling his second-title defense and officially sent Dillashaw into retirement.

Saturday night at the Prudential Center, two bantamweight greats will enter the octagon to prove who is the greatest. With an opportunity to make history, Henry “Triple C” Cejudo will look to regain his title and set the groundwork to become the greatest combat athlete of all time. As for his opponent, Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling will look to earn another title defense that continues to prove his doubters wrong and officially ends the career of another former bantamweight champion.

UFC 288 – Aljamain Sterling vs Henry Cejudo should be another epic UFC fight!
