The Lakers and Heat battled it out in a competitive Game 4.

 

 

After getting the victory in Game 3, the Miami Heat finally found some life in this series. With some momentum and the return of Bam Adebayo, they had a chance to tie up at the series at 2-2.

Miami came out real aggressive in Game 4, led by Jimmy Butler, who had 13 points on 5-7 (71.4%) shooting. Butler continued his hot shooting after a 40 point triple-double performance in Game 3.

Since missing the previous two, Bam Adebayo looked impressive with nine points on 4-5 (80%) shooting and grabbing four rebounds in his first game back.

Although the Heat were able to get Adebayo back, they were still without Goran Dragic. Their starting point guard suffered a torn plantar fascia in his left foot in Game 1.

Coming off a loss in Game 3, the Los Angeles Lakers also came out aggressive and ready to play in this one. The smaller names on the roster put the ball in the basket, and surprisingly LeBron James and Anthony Davis were struggling a bit to find their rhythm.

Believe it or not, the leading scorer for the Lakers at the half was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. After having a poor outing in the previous game, Caldwell-Pope had 10 points by halftime on 4-8 (50%) from the field and 2-5 (40%) from the three.

James and Davis scored a bit in the first half, with eight points each, but their problem was committing several turnovers. The turnovers were a continuing problem from Game 3 when James had eight, and Davis had five.

 

Despite the grueling back and forth battle, Los Angeles still found themselves up by two, 49-47, at the half.

 

The second half went the same as the first, with both teams going back and forth trading buckets. This one had all the makings of an old fashioned nail biter, and arguably the most competitive game of the series so far.

With less than a minute left, the Lakers finally pulled away and took the game out of reach for Miami. Davis knocked down a dagger of a three-pointer with 39.5 seconds left to play. With the three, Los Angeles went up 100-91.

When it was all said and done, the Lake Show got the 102-96 win to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

 

James had himself another near triple-double performance with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. He led all scorers by going 8-16 (50%) from the floor and 2-5 (40%) from behind the arc.

 

Davis followed his lead with a near double-double of 22 points and nine rebounds. He also shot an impressive 8-16 (50%) from the field and 2-4 (50%) from the beyond the arc, including that dagger shot with 30 seconds left in the game.

Caldwell-Pope finished the game with 15 points on 6-12 (50%) shooting and 3-8 (37.5%) from three. After struggling in the past few games, Danny Green also finished in double figures with 10 points on 4-8 (50%) shooting from the floor and 2-6 (33%) from behind the arc.

Butler almost had himself another triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. He led the Heat in scoring by shooting 8-17 (47%).

Herro was right behind him with 21 points on 8-18 (44%) shooting from the floor and 3-7 (42.8) from three.

 

Duncan Robinson was able to help score 17 points on 4-7 (57.1%) shooting from the field and 3-6 (50%) from the beyond the arc.

In his first game since Game 1, Adebayo finished with 15 points on 6-8 (75%) shooting.

With the win, the Lakers now find themselves one win away from winning the championship for the first time in 10 years. This title will give them 17, which will tie the Boston Celtics for the most championships in NBA history.

Los Angeles has won every playoff series this season in five games so far. They will have the chance to do the same on Friday and put an end to his historically long season.

 

It has been a season full of highs and lows. It started with excitement and optimism for James and Davis’s pairing to bring the Lakers back from the NBA Draft Lottery to the NBA Finals. Things took a turn for the worst after the sudden and tragic accident that led to the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven others in January. Los Angeles was able to prevail and dedicate the rest of the season to Bryant on their way to having the best record in the West. Then the coronavirus shook up the world and led to the season being put on hiatus for several months before resuming in the Orlando bubble.

 

Now the Lakers are one win away from putting this season away on a high note; hoisting The Larry O’Brien Trophy.
