Las Vegas Lights FC winning streak comes to an end against arch-rival Reno 1868 FC.
Heading into the match Las Vegas was on a two-match winning streak, with another win putting them in playoff contention. The newest installment of the Silver State Cup was also the biggest match in Lights FC history, having to beat 1868 FC to get into the USL Championship Playoffs. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, Reno was no easy task as they are currently sitting at third in the Western Conference standings with 57 points on the season. 1868 FC proved to be too much for the Lights FC to handle in the 0-2 defeat.
The first goal of the match was actually an own goal from Javan Torre, which made the score 1-0 in the 35th minute. Abdulkadir Haji scored the final goal of the match for Reno in the 76th minute, to take the commanding 2-0 lead. Las Vegas was able to get a few attempts at a goal but none were very close except for Bryan De La Fuente‘s kick off the goal post in the 61st minute. With the loss, Lights FC‘s chances of making the postseason look bleak with only one match remaining in the regular season.
They will close out the season next Saturday on the road against New Mexico United at 6:30pm.
