Preview: Golden Knights vs Canucks – 2nd Round – Game 2

https://franchisesportsmedia.com

The Vegas Golden Knights take on the Vancouver Canucks in game two of the Western Conference Semi-Finals tonight.  The Canucks will offer a much better effort than how the performed in game one.  Beyond the faceoff circle, VGK dominated every aspect of game one.

Vegas Golden Knights head coach Pete DeBoer will have his first big test of the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. This game could be a prime letdown spot for VGK, which DeBoer had firsthand experience.

Back in the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, DeBoer’s San Jose Sharks suffered a game one loss by a score of 7-0 in game one of the second round and rebounded to win game two.

VGK looks to have put the distraction of the tweet by Marc -Andre Fleury’s agent, Allan Walsh, behind them. If anything, it motivated the team to a game one victory. If VGK comes out flat in game two, maybe he can tweet something else to motivate the team.

Look for Vancouver to offer their best effort of the season. Hopefully, DeBoer has the boys prepared.

Game 1 Notes & Quotes:

VGK piled on three more goals during the second period. Consider these troubling stats for the Canucks through the first 40 minutes and Game 1 as a whole.

Here are some game notes:

  • Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser failed to register a single shot on goal through the first two periods. A possibly banged-up J.T. Miller registered that often-dominant first line’s lone SOG through 40 minutes. It doesn’t appear that Pettersson or Boeser was credited with a third-period SOG, either.
  • It’s clear that Vegas owned the high-end real estate on the ice. Through the first two periods of Game 1, the Golden Knights managed an 18-6 advantage over the Golden Knights in slot shots.
  • Also, from the first two periods of Game 1: ten of the Canucks’ 19 SOG came from defensemen.
  • Lehner ultimately only needed to make 26 saves to earn a shutout.

Here are your Game 1 VGK quotes:

“I thought we played a hell of a game,” Lehner said. “It was nice to come out strong and start the series strong.”

“Me and Marc, we were just laughing,” Lehner said. “It’s always the media and everyone else that makes a big deal out of this. I think me and Marc, we get along great. He’s a really good guy. This team in general since I got here is a hell of a group and everyone is really tight.

“At the end of the day, [Fleury] didn’t do anything. It was his agent and if he wants to be unprofessional, then go ahead. He looks terrible,” Lehner said.

“That’s noise, that’s outside noise that really is not going to play in any part we’re doing here,” DeBoer said. “We’re here for one thing. It was a good win, a good team win.”

“I thought we played good hockey; we did the right things at the right times,” Mark Stone said. “We made it tough on their defense, and that’s what we’re going to have to do that throughout the series. … Next game, they’re going to bring their best.”
