New Match Preview: Lights FC vs Orange County SC – 8/25/20
https://franchisesportsmedia.com
The Las Vegas Lights FC look to keep up the intense play from their previous 2 games as they finish off their home stand against Orange County SC.
These two clubs faced off back in week eight, where Orange County SC took the 1-0 win. The game was close and competitive through the full 94 minutes, but the Lights FC struggled to complete passes, especially when attacking Orange County’s half of the field.
Las Vegas was only able to put one shot on target the entire game. So they can look to improve their passing on the break-away as well as their chances at goal. Not only that, but the club tends to have better outcomes for games when they take control of ball possession. The longer a team can have possession in a match, the less chance their opponent has of creating attacks or chances at goal.
As long as the Lights continue their level of play from what viewers have witnessed the past 2 games, the home squad should be more than capable of coming out with a win.
Lights’ goalkeeper, Edward Delgado, looks to lead his back four in a need-to-win game. The Las Vegas soccer club has yet to record a clean sheet in the 2020 USL Championship season, which puts more pressure on the rest of the guys on the field to score multiple goals a game.
Although three goals were scored, the Light’s defense is coming off a great game against the best-ranked team in their table. They denied six shots from Phoenix Rising FC, who arguably have the most productive front three in the league. Delgado earned the save of the match in this game when striker Rufat Dadashov had a clear shot from the center of the box only to be deflected away.
Not to forget, the squad was able to get two quick goals in the last nine minutes of the game to take a win away from the Rising FC.
Las Vegas native Blake Frischknecht who is the most recent player signed as part of the “Lights FC Homegrown Player Initiative presented by Nevada State College,” racked up two assists against Phoenix. One of which was a beautiful back-heel pass for a game-tying goal. Having played just three USL games -all being substitutions – Frischknecht is already tied for 5th most goals in the league.
Players to look out for in today’s matchup:
Orange County forward, Sean Okoli, has scored three goals in 6 appearances. Okoli has capitalized on all his chances with three shots, and all 3 turning into scores. So Frank Yallop and his crew need to plan to mark Sean’s runs and attacks at all times.
Lights’ captain and midfielder, Ramón de la Fuente, is one of the best in the league when it comes to creating chances for his team, whether by passing or shooting. He already has 15 chances created and counting heading into his 6th game.
Las Vegas midfielding winger, Raul Mendiola had to be subbed out of the last match on August 22, due to what appeared to be a left-leg injury. There are no reports yet if the injury is crucial or if the midfielder has to take time off. Mendiola, who is the Las Vegas Light’s second all-time leading scorer, was just recently signed back to the club this season.
Las Vegas forward, Yamikani Chester, was the replacement for Raul Mendiola, where he went on to score his first goal of the season. Chester’s fast pace and quickness gives the Lights an attack off the wing who consistently plays aggressive and creates chances for the offense.
