The Raiders are 5-4 and in second place in the AFC West with aspirations of not only making the playoffs but winning the division. The Silver and Black are playing inspired football under head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock.

The Cincinnati Bengals are winless and sit in last place in the AFC North. They are more likely looking at potential top draft choices and making plans for the offseason than looking forward to traveling to the Black Hole and taking on Raider Nation.

The national media is starting to take notice of what the Raiders are doing. They are praising Gruden and Mayock for the draft they put together and the Kahlil Mack trade. They are calling Gruden “innovating” and think he is a candidate for the coach of the year award.

But the Raiders aren’t concerned what the media thinks; they want to win this Sunday. Here is what they need to do to come away with a win.

Jump on the Bengals early and often.

The Raiders need to get out to an early lead and keep the pressure on the Bengals defense. Josh Jacobs, Derek Carr, and the offense need to continue having a balanced offensive attack, but I believe that they should try to put the Bengals away early. The Bengals are winless for a reason, and with the amount of talent that the Raiders have, a bad Bengal defense is a recipe for a big game for Gruden’s offense. What I don’t want to see is the Raiders jump out to a lead early, get too conservative and let the Bengals hang around to steal a win possibly.

The defense has to pressure the Bengals quarterback.

The Raiders got two and a half sacks from the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Clelin Ferrell, giving him three and a half on the year. The reason I point this out is there has been chatter from fans that he is a “bust” since his sack totals aren’t so high so far this season.

He has a half a sack less than Mack did his entire rookie year and he is asked to do more in this Raiders defense than what Mack was asked to do. Mo Hurst, Max Crosby, and Benson Mayowa have done a great job creating an uncomfortable pocket for teams in recent weeks. With the Bengals porous offensive line, I expect them to tee off on quarterback Ryan Finley.

The Raiders have been playing a bend but don’t break defense, so if they can stop Oakland native and the Bengals best running back, Joe Mixon, score early and often and force them to become one-dimensional, the Raiders should win and become huge Chargers fans on Monday night.
