Game Preview: Raiders vs Jets

The Oakland Raiders travel to the Big Apple to take on the New York Jets Sunday.
The Raiders are 6-4 and in second place in the AFC West with aspirations of not only making the playoffs but winning the AFC West. Head Coach Jon Gruden has his team knocking on more than wood these days, as the Silver and Black are making believers out of NFL pundits and those who scoffed at the team in recent years.
The New York Jets are 3-7 and are looking better after a disastrous start to the season under Head Coach Adam Gase. Former USC standout Sam Darnold in his second year quarterbacking the Jets offense missed four games with mononucleosis and thanks to the New York Giants, the Jets have been saved by being the butt of New York media jokes.
The Raiders hit the road for the first time in three weeks and look to avoid the proverbial east coast start time blues that a lot of teams traveling from the west coast go through.
In order for the Raiders to win and make next weeks game against the Kansas City Chiefs game a potential division title game, they need to do the following two things in New York to leave victorious.
Make the Jets one dimensional.
With Darnold, LeVeon Bell, and Robby Anderson leading the Jets offense, the Raiders can ill afford to allow the Jets to hang around. If Oakland can force the Jets to become an offense that relies solely on the pass and take Bell out of the game, it would bode well for their chances to win.
The talented running back leads the Jets with 508 yards rushing and is also dangerous out of the backfield as a receiver. Anderson, who nearly was traded to the Raiders at the NFL trade deadline, can create match-up issues as well as get deep and make the tough catch. Rookie cornerback Trayvon Mullen has played well and could be the type of corner that gives Anderson fits.
The Raiders need to get offensive and stay that way.
Quarterback Derek Carr has to continue to play the way he has the past few weeks. He has made smart decisions with the ball and taken shots down the field when he has had the opportunity. Rookie running back Josh Jacobs leads all rookies with 923 yards and is the heartbeat of the Raiders offense.
Tight end Darren Waller will once again be the main threat for Carr in the passing game and continue to be a match-up problem. The Jets do have Jamal Adams and he’ll be a force to reckon with, but Jacobs, Waller, wide receiver Tyrell Williams, and Carr look to continue to show the NFL that Gruden’s offense is not a throwback to 1998.
