Runnin’ Rebels (13-14, 8-6) | Colorado State (18-9, 9-5)
The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (13-14) will be coming back home to host the Colorado State Rams (18-9) tonight at 7:30pm PT.
The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off an impressive win against New Mexico, taking that game 78-73. It seemed as if everyone had the hot hand, with four players scoring in double digits. Bryce Hamilton, and Elijah Long both scored 17. Behind them, Amauri Hardy and Marvin Coleman scored 16 apiece.
Despite the win only coming by a five-point differential, it was definitely a momentum booster for UNLV. The New Mexico Lobos are one of the few teams in the Mountain West Conference that do an excellent job of protecting their home floor, currently holding a 14-2 record when playing at the Dreamstyle Arena. However, the Rebels came, saw and conquered, and they now look to take this same energy and apply it against Colorado State, as they look for a chance to even up the series between the two.
With that being said, the last time the Runnin’ Rebels and the Rams faced off, it was the Rams who handled business on their home court, taking the game 95-77. This game will give UNLV the opportunity to even the series, or for Colorado State to close it out.
Bryce Hamilton dropped 28 points in their last outing with the Rams and he is looking to do the same on Tuesday. Hamilton is coming into the game averaging 15.3 points, and 5.2 rebounds. Behind him is none other than Amauri Hardy, who is scoring 14.1 points per game, as well as leading his team in assists at 3.1 per game. When it comes to offense, these two are the ones who get it going. They will have to bring the intensity right out of the gates in order to seal the deal against the Rams.
Four games remain on UNLV’s schedule.
If they can manage to come out of those games on top, they can move up in the conference standings. However, that is easier said than done. Looking ahead on their schedule, they have the No. 4 ranked San Diego State Aztecs up next, who are still undefeated this far into the season with a 26-0 record. Boise State comes after that, then San Jose State. The Rebels will definitely be a team with a chip on their shoulder to end the season.
Colorado State, on the other hand, has had a pretty successful season as it comes to an end. They are coming off a 77-70 win against Wyoming. It was an all-around effort for this team as well, as the Rams had five players scoring in double figures. Isaiah Stevens, the freshman out of Allen, Texas has been leading this squad this season, averaging 13.6 points per game, as well as 4.6 assists. The last time this team went up against the Rebels, Stevens had his way on offense, going off for 21 points. He looks to replicate that same effort in this matchup as well.
At the end of the day, this is a game that can go down either way. It’s up for grabs for both teams. As well as both of these squads are looking to move up the standings within their conference. There is a possibility that it can go right down to the wire, it would come to no surprise that both squads come out and give their best effort on both ends of the floor. UNLV looking to even the series at one apiece, and the Rams looking to sweep the Rebels year.
