Before the 2023 season began the NFL and NBC had November 12th circled. They had Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets taking on Davante Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders. This was supposed to be a game of two future NFL  Hall of Famers, former teammates, going at each other in front of the nation to see.

But a funny thing happened along the way. Just four plays into his New York tenure, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon and has missed every game since then. The Raiders, on the other hand, have fired their head coach and general manager due to ineptitude on the offensive side of the ball, as well as a locker room that was starting to quit on then-head coach Josh McDaniels.

So instead of the primetime matchup with mega stars squaring off, Sunday Night Football was two teams trying to find their way out of the chaos of the first part of the season.

Fortunately for Raider Nation, interim head coach Antonio Pierce appears to have come in and looks to have straightened out the ship with the Raiders. The team that showed no life earlier in the year, has all of a sudden begun to play passionate football, making big plays on both sides of the ball. It also appears that they are playing not only for their coach but more importantly, playing for each other.

For the first three-quarters of the Sunday night matchup, it was an ugly game. It was very hard to watch and didn’t have the excitement and sizzle that the NFL had hoped. But the fourth quarter was something different, as the Raiders went on to win 16–12 bringing smiles to the faces of Raider Nation.

Brick by brick, the Raiders seem to have found some magic mojo with Antonio Pierce leading the way. Making plays at critical junctures of the game, as well as playing for one another, this Raiders team all of a sudden has a different field. Sunday night, the Jets got a taste of what the new look Raiders have brought to the table as the Silver and Black grounded New York in Las Vegas.

The Raiders vs Jets was a Week 10 NFL matchup.

The Raiders and Jets game was dominated by each of the team’s defenses. The Silver and Black needed big plays by two rookies whose futures are bright to pull out the win against the Jets.

It was a tough, back-and-forth game with both team’s defenses stepping up all game long. Both team’s offenses struggled all game, unable to find any semblance of rhythm or timing for quarterbacks Aidan O’Connell or Zach Wilson.

The first half was filled with defense and special teams. With both team’s offenses failing to score a touchdown, they each settled for field goals. The halftime score was 9–6 with the Jets leading.

Raider Nation had to be asking themselves, when would the offense get going? Can the rookie O’Connell lead the Raiders to another victory? Would this be another tough loss to a team that the Raiders feel like they should beat?

But neither team found the end zone until the Raiders did early in the fourth quarter.

O’Connell hit fellow rookie tight and Michael Mayer for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Mayer went up over the Jets Jordan Whitehead and “Mossed” him for his first NFL touchdown. That play gave the Raiders a 16–9 lead.

On the next possession, the Jets had to settle for a field goal after they had two explosive plays, including a 35-yard reception from running back Breece Hall. That field goal cut the Raiders lead to four points.

On the Raiders’ next possession, the Jets Jamien Sherwood forced a Josh Jacobs fumble, which gave the Jets the ball once again with just about six minutes left in the game.

Wilson led the Jets down into the red zone, but that’s when Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane came up with a huge interception. Spillane returned the interception back 25 yards that ended up sealing the ended up seeding the fate of the Jets.

On the night O’Connell went 16–27 for 153 yards and a touchdown to go along with an interception. Josh Jacobs ran the ball 27 times for 116 yards, and Davante Adams had six catches for 86 yards.

It was a gritty, tough win for the Raiders, who now improve to 5–5 on the year. The Jets on the other hand fall to 4–5.  The Raiders will now travel to Miami to take on the explosive Dolphins next week Sunday.

The final score was 16-12, the Raiders over the Jets.

The Raiders will travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins next Sunday. The kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 p.m., and the game can be seen on CBS.
