Dodgers On Deck: Dodgers vs Diamondbacks Series #12

Los Angeles Dodgers (29-10) | Arizona Diamondbacks (14-24)

 

The Dodgers are hotter than the desert in middle of July. With a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the LA has won every series they have played this year (12).  

 

 

Game 1: Win 6-3

The Dodgers would take this game in somewhat impressive fashion with a stellar performance by Julio Urias (6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 SO’s). Urias was great for six innings giving up just one run on a homer in the third to Carson Kelly. Chris Taylor (4 AB, 2 H’s, 4 RBI’s, 1 R, 0 SO) would walk in the first to score Corey Seager and then go on to hit his first of two doubles in the third to score A.J. Pollock and the second in the sixth to score Mookie Betts and Corey Seager.

With the bats making good sounds and the Diamondbacks’ pitching struggling with walks, it made a perfect storm for the seemingly lost small ball.

Nick Ahmed for the Diamondbacks hit a home run in the ninth and also drove in Kole Calhoun to give a small light of hope with a score now of 6-3, but the efforts would show not to be enough. The Dodgers Kenley Jansen (0.1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K) would come in for relief of Scott Alexander in the ninth to record the final out after Scott Alexander gave up the two-run shot to shrink the lead.

 

 

 

Game 2: Win 3-2

Game two proved to be a tougher matchup for the Dodgers. Walker Buehler (5.0 IP, 2H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6K) had himself a fantastic outing. It was not until the later innings when the bullpen came in and gave up two runs, one from Caleb Ferguson (0.2IP, 3H, 1R, 0BB, 0K) and one from Kenley Jansen (1.0IP, 0H, 1R, 2BB, 1K), who would go on to record the save. The game looked over, entering the ninth until the new face of LA baseball, Mookie Betts, (4 AB, 2 H’s, 1 RBI’s, 1 R, 1 SO), hit a clutch line-drive home run to center field to tie the game.

The game would go into extra innings and prove to be very entertaining.

Diamondbacks’ Daulton Varsho would score on a bases-loaded walk in the tenth. The Dodgers, now having their last go at it, would Bring Chris Taylor to the plate with a sacrifice bunt and then a throwing error that would advance him, all while scoring Max Muncy  (4 AB, 0 H’s, 0 RBI’s, 1 R, 1 SO) to retie the game. Will Smith (3 AB, 1 H, 1 RBI’s, 0 R, 0 SO) would finish the night off with a line drive to left field that would score the winning run. 

 

 

 

Game 3: Win 5-1

The Dodgers started quick with a throwing error from the Diamondbacks’ Christian Walker that scored Corey Seager, then a sharp line drive from Chris Taylor that scored Max Muncy. This gave them a 2-0 lead, and then the pitchers went to work from that point into the seventh inning.

Dodgers Clayton Kershaw had a no-hitter going through the sixth and recorded his 2500th career strikeout in a game that he would also record the win. After the first two runs scored, the Diamondbacks’ Luke Weaver would sit down the next thirteen consecutive batters.  A.J. Pollock homered in the bottom of the seventh, and Mookie Betts rolled over a pitched past the shortstop to score Kike Hernandez. The Dodgers would go on to leave the bases loaded in the seventh as Cody Bellinger flew out for the final out. Kike Hernandez lined a high fastball into left-center to score Chris Taylor and make the score 5-1.

The Dodgers’ pitching was outstanding all night from the starters through the bullpen. Clayton Kershaw (6.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 8K) pitched like a Cy Young candidate and earned the win in impressive fashion. Corey Seager (4 AB, 3 H’s, 0 RBI’s, 1 R, 0 SO) swung the bat well and continues his hot streak. Chris Taylor (4 AB, 2 H’s, 1 RBI’s, 1 R, 1 SO) had a solid game, and Mookie Betts (5 AB, 1 H’s, 0 RBI’s, 0 R, 0 SO) had a challenging game at the plate, but his offense wasn’t needed on a night were everyone had a small contribution.

 

 

Colorado Rockies Series Preview

The Rockies, coming off a split two-game series against the San Francisco Giants, are hoping they can find some luck against the red hot Dodgers. The Rockies were dominated in one of the games against the Giants with a final score of 23-5. With this being one of the most impressive wins of the season for any team, they looked to bounce back and did by splitting the series. They now play a team that just set a national league home run record for a month and a currently on point Dodgers pitching staff.
