The club hasn’t had a sloppy game since the 15th of August, and they need to keep the level of play going, plus more. Avoiding a loss against San Diego Loyal last game means they are still inching up in points and gaining ground, but LA Galaxy II did Las Vegas no favor in losing to Orange County SC.

The Lights trail nine points from playoff contention with seven matches left in the 2020 USL Championship season. This may sound like a broken record at this point, but it is now officially crunch time for Las Vegas, especially with the type of schedule coming up.

Their next two matches are against Phoenix Rising FC, who lead the group stage with 20 points. Phoenix is no easy opponent, and these next two games against them could make or break the Lights’ slim chances for playoff contention.

The last time these two clubs faced off…

You may remember this epic game that took place two weeks ago. It was a hard-fought match where momentum and possession control were going back and forth. Phoenix controlled the tempo at their pace for almost a third of the match, and though the Lights held their own, they struggled to keep up on the scoreboard. That was until things came down to the last nine minutes of stoppage time.

With help from an own goal, Ramon Del Campo and the Lights evened up the score at three apiece and avoided falling another three points down the table. This game was a part of the club’s three-game homestand where they put together nine goals and secured a much needed seven out of nine possible points.

Players to keep an eye out for…

Phoenix Rising’s entire front attack presents a lot of issues for defenses. These players are no strangers to Las Vegas as all three of them scored the last time these squads went head-to-head.

Junior Flemmings, who leads the league with ten goals scored, plays out on the left-wing where he utilizes his speed and ball-handling to create chances for his club.

Rufat Dadashov lines up at the center forward spot, where he has recorded seven goals this year along with three assists.

Solomon Asante has six goals for the year and leads the league in assists with 8. This quick and elusive forward off the right wing also leads the league with 36 total chances created. So it is the Lights’ best interest to keep this man marked at all times.

Las Vegas’ forward, Blake Frischknetch, who has yet to make a start, but leads his team in both goals and assists with three of each. Since week 10, Frischknetch has been a part of at least one goal (whether from assist or by scoring) in every game.

Phoenix Rising FC are coming off a 2-1 loss to Reno 1868 FC so it proves this top team is beatable. This next match for the Las Vegas Lights FC could be the start of comeback climb up the group stage.
