UNLV has been on a roller coaster ride of a season thus far. At one point, coach Marcus Arroyo had his Rebels at a 4-1 record. Since then, the three-game losing streak has flattened that record even, and injuries have shaken up the roster.

After a much-needed bye, UNLV looks to tap back into their once-successful ways in a season-defining match-up within the Mountain West against San Diego State. UNLV can control their championship hopes down the stretch, as all remaining conference games will come against teams with the same or worse record than them.

UNLV hopes health comes out of the bye, as they have been without quarterback Doug Brumfield during this three-game skid. Also, Aiden Robbins would be a very beneficial return if he is good to go on Saturday. There is no doubt that the Rebels will need both.

A smashmouth-styled Aztec team has struggled to put together a string of wins all season long. It has been a win one, lose-one type of campaign for San Diego State. Usually competitive and always hard-hitting, the Aztecs are looking to do the same thing as UNLV on Saturday, get the victory and gain some momentum toward a Mountain West title push.

The Aztecs have seen multiple signal-callers this season, and it seems they have settled down with Jalen Mayden. Mayden has only thrown for three touchdowns and two interceptions, but the motive of the Aztecs is to run the football.

San Diego State ranks fourth in the conference rushing the ball and fourth in stopping the rush. It is no secret that both of these units want to win the line of scrimmage and set the tone with physicality.

The Aztecs are coming off a tough loss to Fresno State, where they gave up 15-unanswered in the fourth quarter. They will be looking to right those wrongs on Saturday against UNLV.

Will what was once a great season be revived with a big victory down in So-Cal? The Rebels have been riddled with injuries and have struggled to start games quickly. For instance, the first-half deficits that have plagued the Rebels on this losing streak are still waiting to be fixed.

As fans await the status of Brumfield and Robbins, the staff will be ready to roll out whoever is healthy. If Brumfield is out again, expect another shared position with Harrison Bailey and Cameron Friel. Without Robbins, Courtney Reese will tote the rock again. He had himself a day in Notre Dame with 142-yards on the ground.

UNLV is hoping to be at full strength for this match-up. Whether they are or not, though, this is a must-win game to snap a terrible losing streak and set sights on more high-stakes football down the stretch.

UNLV travels to Snap Dagon Field in San Diego, California, to take on the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday at 4 PM on CBS SPORTS NETWORK.
