The New Jersey Devils were looking to extend their win streak to four games intending to remain red-hot as they played the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena.

But the Golden Knights got the best of them in the end when Shae Theodore scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Golden Knights the victory 4-3 over the Devils.

But the highlight of this game rested upon Vegas goaltender Adin Hill who made a career-high 46 saves that played a big part in the win for the Golden Knights.

“I felt like I had a good game,” Hill said. “I felt good out there. I felt I was making good reads and seeing the puck well. Adrenaline’s going; you’re just in the moment trying to do everything you can to keep the puck out of the net.”

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and had an assist, Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist, and Ivan Barbashev had two assists for the Golden Knights, who are currently 8-1-2 in their past 11 games and moved two points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Pacific Division.

“‘Marchy’ finished well, Jack’s had a lot of juice lately, Barbashev makes a lot of small-area plays,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “The games are tighter… Points are valuable, and players recognize that this time of the year.”

Marchessault was the first to score for the Golden Knights after swiping in a rebound while falling to his right to make the score 1-0. The goal for Marchessault was his 400th career point (178 goals, 222 assists).

“I just saw the puck was at a good angle, and I tried to get out there as quick I could,” Marchessault said. “I know the goalie goes normally where the puck went from. The short side would be open. I just got lucky, I guess.”

Jesper Bratt tied the score up for the Devils 1-1 on a power play goal at 15:16 of the first period after shooting a one-timer shot from the right face-off dot.

Dawson Mercer gave the Devils the lead 2-1 with 28 seconds left in the first period after firing a wrist shot from the right circle passing right through Adin Hill.

Bruce Cassidy said the Golden Knights weren’t initially ready to handle the Devils’ speed, despite being down 2-1 after two periods.

Almost midway in the third period, Marchessault tied the game 2-2 after firing a wrist shot from the hash marks.

Eichel then extended the lead for Vegas 3-2 at 3:47 of the third period after scoring from the left circle after receiving a pass from Marchessault from off the rush.

Coming out of the break, he’s looked better and refreshed,” Cassidy said. “He’s separating better. When you lose other players who give you some of that, someone has to give you a little bit more.”

Miles Wood tied the game 3-3 at 12:53 after jamming the puck past Adin Hill from behind the net.

Despite Vegas getting outshot by the Devils 9-0 in overtime, Adin Hill did not allow a goal during the four rounds of the shootout.

Tonight was kind of a playoff-type game,” Hill said. “I’m glad we got the win. They have some good players and a lot of skill in their lineup. They’re a fast team.

The Golden Knights vs Devils final score is 4-3.

The Golden Knights will remain home when they play against the Montreal Canadiens at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday. The puck drops at 3:00 pm. The game can be seen on  AT&T SportsNet (channel 313 on Cox Cable) or heard on 98.9 FM, FOX Sports Las Vegas 1340 AM.
