The Knights’ road trip has not started correctly, losing their first two road games. After a heartbreaking loss to the New Jersey Devils in overtime, the Knights went upstate to New York at Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers

This game between the Knights and Rangers marked the 400th game for both Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson playing for the Golden Knights.

The first period started at a high tempo for the Knights, where it looked like they had complete control on the offensive side when it came to puck possession in the zone and tons of shots on goal.

But the Rangers’ style of play was consistent along with Vegas, shooting the same amount of shots, but it was the Knights that were becoming more aggressive on offense. Jack Eichel and William Carrier played like they hadn’t missed beating with their fast tempo playing.

But despite everything, the game remained scoreless; that all changed almost towards the end of the first period with over 4 minutes left. The Rangers struck first and brought the fans in The Garden to a frenzy when Chris Kreider scored a backhand shot in front of Adin Hill to put the Rangers on the board first, 1-0.

The 1-0 lead for the Rangers did not last long. With over a minute left, the Rangers extended the lead after Vincent Trocheck scored from the bottom of the right circle to extend the lead to 2-0.

Vegas looked like they controlled the first period by being aggressive on offense but left the first period down by two goals.

At the beginning of the second period, things got chippy between both teams when Vegas Keegan Kolesar and Rangers Will Cuylle fought at the end of the opening face-off.

The Knights needed to make quick adjustments in the second period fast, and they did during the first 4 minutes. Phil Kessel cut the 2-goal lead in half after scoring from behind the goal line with a shot that cut through Jaroslav Halak’s glove to make the score 2-1.

The second period was the same as the first, where both teams were evenly matched, getting an equal amount of shots on goal and being aggressive on offense. Still, the score remained 2-1 at the end going into the third period.

The third period remained the same score throughout the majority of the period. Still, with over 6 minutes left in the period, Vegas’ hopes of making a comeback and winning this game ran out when the Rangers scored after Filip Chytil lost the puck twice before backhanding the puck into the net to extend the lead 3-1.

The more minutes went by, the less chance it was for the Golden Knights to even climb back into this game. After Adin Hill got pulled towards the end, the Rangers answered when Jimmy Vesey scored an empty net goal to make the score 4-1 and put the game away as the Rangers were victorious, defeating the Knights

The Golden Knights have now lost their third straight and sixth in seven games (1-5-1). Also, with the loss, they no longer have sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division.
