The 2022-2023 NHL season for the Vegas Golden Knights has started surprisingly well, with 1st place in the Pacific division and Western Conference and a five-game winning streak. However, that winning was tested on their road trip, as they played their second of five road games when the VGK traveled to the capital of Ontario to play against the Ottawa Senators.

Logan Thompson was once again the starter in net for the Knights, as VGK were looking to extend their winning streak to 6 games now.

In the first period, the Knights would not let up. Just a minute into the game, Mark Stone would score to put the Knights up 1-0. The quick starts that the Knights have created throughout this season would be precisely what they needed in this game. But just three minutes later, the Senators came back and tied it up with a goal by Claude Giroux, which confused Thompson at first when the puck bounced off from him.

Still tied at 1-1 in the 1st, VGK found themselves with a power play opportunity, and at the 9:19 mark, Riley Smith scored from a nice set-up pass from William Karlsson to put the Knights ahead 2-1. Towards the end of the period, Zach Whitecloud got his first goal of the season, as the first period ended at 3-1.

In the middle of the second period, the Knights were on the penalty kill due to a high sticking call on Michael Amadio. Still, the penalty didn’t seem to bother the Knights when Chandler Stephenson scored on a shorthanded goal to extend the lead to 4-1 in favor of the VGK. The Knights were once again having a consistent game, more importantly, playing better in the second period.

VGK would expand the 4-1 lead when Will Carrie scored to put the Knights up by four goals at 5-1.

The Golden Knights thought they had a comfortable four-goal lead but quickly realized it was a bit too comfortable when Claude Giroux scored to bring the game to 5-2. About two minutes later, the Senators scored again, this time from Stutzle, when Thompson thought he had stopped a shot by Tkachuk, but the puck trickled through his pads, and Stutzle pushed it over the goal line. The score was now 5-3, with VGK still in the lead after the second period.

The game got out of hand in the third period when Tim Stutzle scored again to cut the score to one. The score was now 5-4. VGK was losing momentum early in the third period, but Logan Thompson came up big for the Knights when he ended the night with 42 saves. The Knights were able to hold off the Senators throughout the period and finished with a 5-4 victory making it six straight wins for the Golden Knights now.

The Golden Knights’ road trip continues on Saturday as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotia Bank Arena. They are scheduled to drop the puck at 4:00 pm, and the game can be seen on AT&T Sports Net (channel 313 on Cox Cable) or can be heard on 98.9 FM, FOX Sports Las Vegas 1340 AM.
