An open letter to Mr. Peter DeBoer from Vegas.

 

Mr. DeBoer, please accept our sincerest apologies. How did we ever question you? It is not your fault that Thatcher Demko had one of the best three-game runs in the entire history of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. It is not your fault that we got another major penalty in a playoff game seven.

 

The stats did not support your decision to start Robin Lehner tonight. He was like 1-7-1 with a poor goals-against and save percentage in the back end of back-to-back games. Marc-Andre Fleury had a great game seven track record, was healthy, and rested. He also has not lost to Vancouver in regulation since before the iPhone was invented. Lehner gave up three goals in game six, but that did not matter to you. You also had the guts to trust your instinct and shake all the offensive lines up. And who takes a timeout with over six minutes left in the game?

Mr. DeBoer, Vegas has complete confidence in your decision making from this point forward.

PS: I am sorry for tweeting a picture of you wearing a clown nose and wig.

PSS: I am sorry for suggesting that the Victory Flamingo should be beheaded in Toshiba Plaza if VGK would have lost this game.

 

WHAT A GAME!

 

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Vancouver Canucks in game seven of the Western Conference Semi-Finals and will face the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. Even though the game was tied for over forty-five minutes, Vegas seemed in control and dominated the action. Vancouver appeared to have the golden opportunity when Ryan Reaves was assessed a match penalty (five minutes) with less than four minutes remaining in the second period.

 

However, the VGK penalty kill stood tall holding Vancouver to just a handful of shots. Shea Theodore finally got one by Demko on the power play with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Alex Tuch and Paul Stastny got empty netters, and Vegas would win this one by a score of three to zero.

Hats off to Demko. Last night was one of the best performances that I have ever seen from a goaltender.  Vancouver did little to help him out. Demko just earned himself a nice contract. NBC Sports referred to him as “Mr. September.”

 

What about the other goalie that played this series, you know, the one that had three shutouts?!?

 

Lehner was amazing. How does a three-shutout performance get overshadowed? Lehner reminded everyone why he is our starter and bailed out Mr. DeBoer. Lehner’s praise is not suggesting anything wrong about our beloved Flower, but Lehner was stellar and deserved the net.

Up next is the Dallas Stars, who just gave up thirty goals in seven games. Vegas gave up fourteen goals in their seven-game series. Dallas scored a bunch as well, but they faced a Colorado Avalanche team that was on their third-string goalie and had numerous injuries. Vegas will be a much tougher test for Dallas.
