FSM Essential Recap: VGK vs Stars – Western Conference Finals – Game 2

The Vegas Golden Knights radio broadcast team had a gem of a stat that they mentioned early in the first period. Nicolas Roy and Max Pacioretty had only been on the ice together for approximately seven minutes.
To be fair, I don’t recall if that was a stat dating back to the regular season or from the start of the postseason. Nicolas Roy set up the first VGK goal when he carried the puck up the right side, found Brayden McNabb, who sent it down low to Max Pacioretty, who centered it to Paul Stastny. Two and a half minutes later, William Karlsson scored on a wrist shot that goalie Anton Khudobin probably wants back.
Shea Theodore appeared to give VGK a three-goal lead; however, it was waved off due to interference by Pacioretty. Thomas Nosek, Chandler Stephenson, and Roy played a beautiful game of tic-tac-toe on VGK’s third goal. That is how this one would end. Robin Lehner picked up his fourth shutout of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Coach DeBoer has been very calm about VGK’s scoring drought.
Every answer that he gave in the pressers ended with him stating he likes the chances the team has been getting and to stick to the course. He may have been playing off a calm and collected front. But putting two players together who have played limited minutes with one another (Roy and Pacioretty) says that there perhaps may have been a bit of panic. Panic is a bit of an overstatement; Mr. DeBoer was looking for a spark. That’s the better way to say it.
Either way, “The Mad Scientist” had just the right mix of chemicals tonight, and this is another example of Mr. DeBoer being a level above the other NHL coaches.
“David Perron was very impressive to watch in his season with VGK. His puck possession at times was amazing. He had a way of shielding the puck and was able to make great plays on both ends of the ice. Nicolas Roy seems to have a similar style of play. He has been able to make scoring chances with little space with the puck. Roy is on the verge of breaking out with a multiple-point game.”
The above statement was from my game preview on Franchise Sports Media. I want to thank Nicolas Roy for coming through and making me look good. He has a ton of skill, and game two was his breakout game. Pacioretty on Roy’s line will draw some attention away from him.
Ryan Reaves was back after serving his one game suspension and his presence was felt early on.
John Klingberg took a run at Reaves when the puck was nowhere around him. Klingberg was sent to the box for interference. Reaves changes the entire dynamic of the game. It’s kind of like when you work a job five days a week, and you have two different bosses. Monday through Thursday, you have boss “A” who is very by the book and does not let the staff get away with breaking the rules. On Friday, you get boss “B.” Boss “B” is cool to work for but does not run as tight of a ship as boss “A.” Boss “B” keeps things fun, but productivity struggles for the company when boss “B” runs the show.
Ryan Reaves is boss “A.”
How lucky are we to have the Vegas Golden Knights? Kudos to none other than the Golden Knight himself (Lee Orchard) for this statistic. The Golden Knights have the MOST playoff wins (28) of all NHL teams from the moment VGK entered the NHL in the 2017-2018 campaign.
Let that sink in for a moment.
