This week’s XFL action is in Sin City as the Vegas Vipers welcome the San Antonio Brahmas to the Snake Pit. The Vipers are looking to rebound from an embarrassing performance last week against the St. Louis Battlehawks at home that resulted in a loss.

The Vipers made headlines Tuesday when they traded starting quarterback Luis Perez to the Arlington Renegades. Perez was No. 4 in the XFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns, but he was benched in last week’s loss after throwing two interceptions. Most thought the team would likely go forward with Brett Hundley, the former backup to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.

Hundley is 37-of-69 this season with 7.2 yards per attempt, the third-highest average for any quarterback with at least 60 passes. He has not thrown an interception yet, but the Vegas offense has struggled in recent weeks and only scored 6 points last week (Hundley did lead that scoring drive).

But this week’s depth chart says differently. Jalan McClendon, who has been inactive all season, is listed as QB1 and will get the start for VegasMcClendon played his final year of college football with the Baylor Bears after being the backup at NC State. He has had stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Wildcats (XFL 2020).

It’s been hit or miss for the Vipers‘ offense, so Hundley not starting is not a shock. Vegas has scored at least 20 points in three games this season, while it has also scored less than 7 points in two games. Head coach Rod Woodson’s team hasn’t been able to get defensive stops either, ranking seventh in points allowed (27.2 per game).

The Brahmas are also a struggling team and offense, but they did find a way to win as an underdog last week, 15-9, over the Arlington Renegades. The Brahmas are averaging only 14.8 points (No. 7 in XFL) on 205.0 yards per game (last in XFL). Four different quarterbacks have seen action, with none excelling so far. Since San Antonio has struggled on offense all season, they will likely go with the tandem of Jawon Pass and Kurt Benkert at quarterback, as they did in Week 6.

Out of eight teams, the Vipers are No. 7 in points allowed, while San Antonio has the No. 1 scoring defense. The Brahmas also have a positive scoring differential (plus-1) despite the 2-4 record. Vegas is next to last with a minus-52 point differential.

The Vipers vs Brahmas looks to be a high-scoring game.

Vipers New and Notes:

The Vipers’ Jeff Badet is having an excellent year.

Vegas Vipers wide receiver Jeff Badet has been one of the most reliable receivers for the team this season, as he leads the team in three categories: 24 receptions, 341 yards, and five touchdowns. His touchdowns lead the XFL this season, while his yardage ranks second in the league, and receptions rank fifth. The former Oklahoma and Kentucky standout’s 14.2 yards per reception also rank second in the XFL amongst receivers who have caught at least 20 passes.

In Week 1 against Arlington, Badet caught two touchdowns, his first two touchdowns as a professional football player. Against Seattle, he had a 56-yard reception in the third quarter, which at the time was the longest reception in the XFL, but was later surpassed in the game when Josh Gordon caught a 65-yard touchdown reception and then the next day when D.C.’s Chris Blair had a 58-yard reception. Against Orlando in Week 5, the Florida native caught five passes for 80 yards, including two touchdowns.
